What amounts to the fourth and final season of Spartacus - when counting the prequel Gods of the Arena in with Blood and Sand (S1) and Vengeance (S2) - will debut in January 2013. The 10 episode run will go by the name War of the Damned.

Starz Renews Spartacus Months Before Second Season Even Premieres
Today Starz announced that Spartacus has been renewed for a third season - even as its second isn't slated to start up until January 27th. Liam McIntyre takes over the lead role in Spartacus: Vengeance after the terribly sad passing of star Andy Whitfield. Production on the third season (yet to be named) will begin in 2012 and is likely to air in early 2013.

The premiere of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena has turned in the best ratings for an original series in Starz history. The show drew 1.9 million viewers on Friday night with its two airings. That number doesn't even include those watching through On-Demand or Netflix. The premiere topped the ratings for every episode of Spartacus' first season which was the first breakout hit for the network and kept building a dedicated following with every episode.

The New Spartacus is Liam McIntyre
Starz has announced they have officially cast Australian actor Liam McIntyre in the role of Spartacus for season two. He replaces Andy Whitfield as he continues treatment for non-hodgkin's lymphoma which has prevented him from returning to the show. Spartacus was a breakout hit for the network, and season two was put on hold until the decision was made to re-cast. Production is expected to start this spring and will likely premiere next January.
