THQ May Move Away From Releasing an Annual UFC Game
Recently THQ blamed Red Dead Redemption for the relatively poor sales of UFC Undisputed 2010 when compared to the breakout hit of UFC 2009. Thankfully it now appears that they recognize there was a lot more to why the game faltered than just competition for dollars in the marketplace. While they don't cite the quality of the game being an issue (actually referencing its 85 metacritic) what they seem to have realized is an annual UFC game may not be justifiable.
"We're considering a longer dev...
THQ Blames Poor UFC Sales on RDR
Sales of UFC 2010 Undisputed have been very disappointing for THQ this year, with them having fallen 59% year-over-year for the first month. A number of factors for the tumble can be contemplated however THQ believes it is due to the release of Red Dead Redemption, which crushed with huge sales. It released one week before UFC 2010.
In an interview with MCV, THQ's UK marketing director had the following to say:Â "Our sales were softer than where we would have liked them to be," Rooke told M...
Tiger Woods 11 Sales Even Worse Than Initially Thought
Late last week NPD released the official sales numbers for June. Tiger Woods 11 saw a huge drop-off from what Tiger 10 sold in its first month. Given the numbers that were on hand I estimated that it had fallen in the 40-50% range. It turns out that the situation was even more dire than anticipated. Sales actually dropped 68% year-over-year for all formats combined while the Wii version specifically fell an almost unbelievable 86%. It went from 272K to 38K.
The main factor in the plummeting...
Sales of Tiger Woods Fall Sharply
Last month it was UFC 2010 Undisputed that came in with an unprecedented 59% year-over-year sales drop for the first month. In June it was the Tiger Woods franchise that experienced a huge sales decline, though the reasoning behind the decrease for both games would be completely different. While we don't have the exact sales number Tiger Woods 11 (Wii) did not chart in the top 10 while last year it placed fourth with 272K. Going by the numbers that have been released for the games in the top 1...
UFC 2010 Takes Huge Tumble in Sales
Last month it was reported that UFC 2010 Undisputed was selling below expectations. Even considering that no one could have imagined just how severely sales had dropped off from the series debut of UFC 2009. Now the official sales numbers from NPD have come through to make it apparent that not only did it sell below expectations but relatively speaking it bombed.
In May UFC 2010 sold 222,100 copies on the 360 and 192,300 on the PS3 for a total of 414,400 coming in 4th and 5th place respecti...
UFC 2010 Selling Below Expectations
Last year UFC 2009 broke onto the scene with huge sales numbers exceeding even the most optimistic of expectations. The game went on to be the highest selling sports title in the US behind only Madden 10. UFC 2009 seemed to catch gamers by surprise with its demo and then an impressive final product (particularly for a first attempt) which and in turn led to fantastic word-of-mouth carrying it beyond just hardcore UFC fans. UFC 2010 Undisputed arrived without the benefit of that surprise factor...
