Take Two today revealed financial details from Q3 2018 and that included record numbers for NBA 2K18. The company saw growth in both total net revenue and digitally-delivered net revenue over the same quarter in the previous fiscal year. NBA 2K18 was a big driver in both areas (digital up 30%) along with the Grand Theft Auto titles. Last year for NBA 2K17 it was a figure of 8.5 million touted by Take Two for that release quarter which turned out to be a "shipped" number instead of a "s...

Sales results for September in North America are out via NPD and the sports games made their presence felt as they do every year. In a month with ridiculous competition within the genre NBA 2K18 finished second, Madden NFL 18 right behind it in third, FIFA 18 came in fourth, and NHL 18 was eighth. NBA Live 18 also made an appearance at #17.  (more…)...

Besides another NBA Live cancellation and other news on the upcoming fiscal year, Electronic Arts yesterday revealed that FIFA 17 outsold every other video game in 2016 worldwide. That's not necessarily a surprise but that the franchise continues to grow year-over-year may be one. The latest game in the series is up 8% compared to FIFA 16 over the same stretch of time. The biggest reason for that may be the new story mode "The Journey" that was introduced in FIFA 17. Over 10 mill...
  • 2015 featured three sports games that finished in top ten of sales

Every year there are three constants in the final end-of-year NPD sales rankings. Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA are undoubtedly going to be found taking up 3 of the 10 slots. For the third time in the last four years the Madden NFL franchise has finished second in sales in North America over the 12 month period. Madden NFL 16 only sold fewer copies than Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Along with Madden NFL 15 and Madden NFL 13, which were second place finishes, and Madden NFL 25...

It was evident that NBA Live 16 was DOA as soon as it released. Activity numbers in the game were dreadful, and ever since even at peak hours there aren't more than 120 or so people connected and playing. While it's difficult to get any actual sales numbers these days we now have a true indication of just how poorly the game has done.  (more…)...
  • NBA 2K16 shattering franchise sales records

2K Sports announced today that NBA 2K16 has set a new franchise record with four million copies "sold-in" after just one week of release. That means 2K has shipped four million - a stunning number - but it will take some time before retailers have "sold through" them. Digital sales of 2K16 have doubled compared to 2K15 and the number of online games that have been played have tripled year-over-year. Both are clear indications of the strength of the game's launch. Not only was antici...

With NPD reports in for December the entirety of 2014 can be analyzed and three sports games finished in the top ten of sales for the year. The three in question are regulars when rounding up the best-sellers annually. Madden NFL 15 finished as the second biggest seller in 2014. Only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was able to top it. NBA 2K15 finished the year in seventh place and FIFA 15 came through in ninth place. It's important to note that NPD only covers North America. NBA ...
  • Sales of EA Sports UFC Continue Alarming Downward Trend for the Sport

EA Sports UFC has struggled in terms of review scores and word of mouth and now that the sales numbers have released the impact of the poor start to the new franchise for the company can be further examined. First month sales for UFC combined for only 278K copies which explains the price drop that went wide last week. THQ's UFC series took a nosedive following the first release in 2009 - something partially attributed to the lack of roster turnover, competition from high profile games, an...
