Another long day with MLB 09 The Show is complete. This time around my time was split between exhibition games, Road To The Show, practice drills, and grabbing screenshots and some video highlights. I'm not sure when I'll have those screens and clips back from SCEA but I'm hopeful that will happen by the end of the weekend. Out of those things about all I can discuss right now is the gameplay. The others will have to wait for another day. If you missed the first report from the event make...

After about five hours with the game today and more than that to come tomorrow there will be plenty to discuss about MLB 09 The Show. I wanted to get some initial thoughts up now and follow that up with one that will probably be more extensive tomorrow night. First, there are some restrictions to what I am able to talk about. Those basically amount to the topics that are slated for coverage in the upcoming weekly Playstation Blog postings. I'll be able to go over those areas a day after t...

It wasn't too long ago that online play was an afterthought when it came to sports games. Whether it be bare bones offerings, laggy performance, or disconnection issues there was not much time or effort being spent to make on making for great experience. At the time the reasoning being given was that not enough people played online. Internal data showed that many who did go online would play only once or a couple times and then never again. That provided their justification for not spendi...
  • 09 NBA Games Offer Something For Everyone

Despite the constant bickering between fans of the games this has turned out to be a fantastic season of NBA offerings. Each of the three titles does some things really well while falling short in comparison in other areas. There may be some frustration that there is no "total package" as unrealistic as that may be. Though unlike the NFL and MLB there are multiple choices available on each console which allows for consumers to choose the game that suits them best. NBA 2K9: Continues its g...

It isn't release day of a sports title lately without major issues becoming the topic of discussion. The NBA games have continued the trend as they struggle to get advertised features operating properly. With NBA Live 09 the online servers appear to be down causing the much touted NBA Live 365 feature to be inoperable and making online games unable to be played. At the same time people who have already entered in their code for 365 are being prompted to do so again giving a message that t...
  • Closer Look at the Madden 09 Sales

Official NPD sales numbers for August have been released and as expected it was Madden that dominated the month. A few days ago EA Sports president Peter Moore talked about the 6% sales increase and now we have the detailed breakdown. Dollar wise thanks to a shift towards the more expensive 360/PS3 versions as well as the Collector's Edition it was a bigger pickup than just the total sales would represent. 360: 1,000,000 (+103,400) PS3: 643,000 (+306,800) Wii: 115,800 (+20,000) PS2: 42...

Madden 09 has made its way out and with that brings an end to the prerelease coverage of the game. I still have plans to complete full online impressions, a look at fantasy football importing into Madden (which looks like it has been fixed), an EASW video highlight contest, and the setting up of the custom team online competition to look forward to in the near future. Otherwise I'll be directing my immediate focus towards NFL Head Coach 09 which I'll have later today. As always I'll be cu...
  • Random Thoughts on Madden 09

Having gone to the community event and gotten an extensive amount of time with the game there I have already been able to give my overall impressions on the game. My thoughts from then basically carry over to now. Madden 09 is a significant upgrade in gameplay and presentation. At the same time the overall experience feels more empty after having enjoyed NCAA Football 09's online dynasty. There just isn't a feature or mode in Madden that matches up to that. So I thought I would just drop some...
