Week five of the NFL season is in the books and not a single team remains undefeated. Parity rules this year. In some ways that could make Madden 11 more enjoyable as no team can claim to be unbeatable and every team (except maybe Buffalo) seems good enough to at least compete even against the stronger teams. Some names worthy of mentioning for continued high level of performance include Clay Matthews, Shaun Hill, Brandon Lloyd, Malcolm Floyd, Josh Freeman and Mike Williams (TB). Carson Pal...

Back in May it was reported that an animated version of the film Napoleon Dynamite was being developed. Today we learned that Fox has picked up the series for an initial six episode run. The comedy will follow the "misadventures of an awkward high school teenager and his quirky friends as they struggle to navigate life in rural Idaho." The voice talent features much of the original cast from the movie including Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efran Ramirez (Pedro), and John Gries (Uncle Rico).  N...

EA Sports put themselves in a tough spot by deciding to drastically change the direction of their NBA franchise. Not only were they trying to introduce a different way to play a basketball game they were the underdog in the marketplace. As such they felt they needed to differentiate from the competition and in doing so try and convince consumers that it was what they wanted even if they didn't know it yet. Needless to say they failed to do just that, and when the demo arrived and gamers gav...

Though the political teams in NBA Jam were unveiled it was the way to unlock them, as well as other secret teams, that was not immediately evident. Yesterday I posted the unlock code for the SportsNation team but there are several more that have already been discovered for the Wii version of the game. Kotaku has pictures that include the ratings to check out in addition to the info on how to use the teams which follows. (more…)...

Last week it was announced that Emma Stone had joined the Spider-Man reboot to play Gwen Stacy. She joined Andrew Garfield who, as Peter Parker, was naturally the first person brought on for the film. Now another name has joined the cast. Director Marc Webb: "What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character." Rhys Ifans, probably best kno...

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings. NBA 2K11 has a three page manual. Thankfully 2K Sports has provided expanded manuals that can be downloaded from here. Right click the links and "save as" in order to get them as just clicking on the links normally doesn't work. EA Sports is looking for suggestions of cheerleader chants to be recorded for NCAA Football 11. We've known for a while that...
  • The Social Network Beats Three New Releases

Word of mouth for The Social Network has helped it hang on to the top spot at the box office besting three new releases. The movie fell just 30% to $15.5 million and has now collected $46 million. Life as We Know It, Secretariat, and My Soul To Take all produced mediocre results. In second place it was the Life as We Know It which pulled in $14.6 million. The romantic comedy starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl had a strong marketing push but got poor reviews. However audiences seem to...

On the day before NBA 2K11 was set to hit stores I noted what an unprecedented wave of discussion had begun taking place in social channels. That has continued throughout the entire release week. Kotaku was able to get details on just how significant a presence the game has been enjoying on Twitter. NBA 2K11 has been a "Trending Topic" on the social messaging platform (make sure to follow me on there) every day since Monday and that now includes today as well. It was able to stay in the lis...
