It's been a rough first third of the year for sports gaming. There have been some good games released but even those have suffered from a wide array of issues the severity of which has stretched beyond what has become somewhat accepted as the norm. With well over 5K votes in the poll posted last week it's MLB 2K12 taking the crown as the biggest failure this year with MLB 12: The Show trailing close behind.  (more…)...

  • Opening Weekend Box Office Record Shattered by The Avengers

Most expected The Avengers to challenge the $169 million opening weekend box office record held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 but few thought it even possible for a film to reach the number that it has - $200.3 million. Even with rising ticket prices padded by 3D and IMAX surcharges the $200 million mark seemed impossible to reach based on the finite number of screens and showings and the rarity of an event that could draw crowds of such a magnitude. It was the perfect s...

MLB 2K12 is making a run at being tabbed as the biggest failure from the first third of the year and it's list of issues doesn't even include the latest embarrassment. It's ironic - and maybe somewhat fitting for the troubled MLB 2K series - that once they finally got the structure of the $1 million Perfect Game Contest right by turning it into a competition they left open a huge loophole for players to exploit. Kotaku has all the details on how the contest has been seriously compromised.ÂÂ...

  • Unification of Control Schemes Between Madden and NCAA a Good Sign

One somewhat overlooked change for this year that will affect the more dedicated sports gamer comes with EA Sports choosing to utilize the same control scheme in NCAA Football 13 as Madden NFL 13. In the past the two games have differed quite significantly with their controls to the extent that it had become hard to bounce from one game to the other comfortably. While this has a few downsides (Madden switching back to the right stick kicking to match NCAA for example) it represents an ind...

As Amazon continues to build up its streaming service, which comes as part of the 'Prime' package, it will be following in the footsteps of their competitors Netflix and Hulu by rolling out their own original content. Amazon will be developing its own programming (sitcom or childrens) through a process of accepting scripts and choosing the ones they like the most to produce.  They'll be paying out $10,000 to option scripts and $55,000 for those that are green-lit. Find out all ab...
