In my initial impressions of Kinect for Xbox 360 I noted that despite how capable the hardware was ultimately it would be the software that makes the experience worthwhile or not. Of all the Kinect games I've played so far I've only been let down by one and that is MotionSports from Ubisoft. (more…)...

Only one day in with Kinect and it has been a surprisingly enjoyable experience. This comes from someone who has not bought into the concept of motion-based gaming previously. The question certainly remains whether it will have the desired replayability factor but I'm confident enough at this point to have decided to sell my Wii. I've kept that console around just in case a compelling game comes along but having Kinect makes it feel unnecessary and obsolete. (more…)...

EA Sports MMA has now been out for two weeks allowing plenty of time to assess what the game has done well and where it fell short. For a first attempt with the launching of a franchise the product is surprisingly polished and contains a deep feature set. Here are what I perceive to be the hits and misses for EA Sports MMA. Earlier this week it was revealed that a 3D mode in Madden 11 could be unlocked through a process involving partner Doritos. After completing all the steps necessary to activate the mode and try it out I can easily say that no one else need go through the trouble. It is best to just pretend this 3D mode never existed to begin with.  (more…)...

The career mode for EA Sports MMA is largely responsible for how much I have been enjoying the game. While it is pretty straight-forward in how the fighter progresses and advances it is the process of being put through the motions of various drills that has proved extremely valuable. The career mode avoids some of the frustrations found in similar modes in other games. It also keeps a good balance in ratings distribution while adding the strategy behind building on chosen strengths and learnin...

EA Sports MMA has some of the best online features of any sports game to date and has excellent online performance to go along with that. However the initial online base of players is notably lacking so the outlook going forward, as to whether there will be enough players to support the various experiences fully, becomes a bit of a concern. NBA 2K11 has now been out for two weeks allowing plenty of time to assess what the game has done well and where it fell short. While there are certainly some issues to look at for an upcoming patch the game delivered in just about every way imaginable. Here are what I perceive to be the hits and misses for NBA 2K11. The NBA 2K series has struggled mightily with online play as 2K Sports attempted to expand features while taking on the increased load that has come with the growing sales base. Crippling lag and features that didn't function as advertised made for a frustrating online experience. While NBA 2K11's online play can still be considered an area of weakness it has seemingly avoided being the disaster of the last few years. The game didn't add any new online features choosing instead to work on e...
