In terms of modes the central addition to MLB 12: The Show comes in the form of Diamond Dynasty. Similar to Ultimate Team in EA Sports titles Diamond Dynasty puts additional focus on team personalization and introduces more depth to the structuring and building of them. Conceptually the mode works but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.  (more…)...

The SSX reboot from EA Sports faced the difficulty of living up to nostalgic feelings bred from earlier entries in the series while taking advantage of the advanced technology available to in turn justify its full price on the 360 and PS3 with a wider-ranging experience. The new game had to appeal to those earlier fans while reaching new ones - and it entered the marketplace during a period where arcade-style games have found little traction. Despite some bumps along the way SSX largely s...

Titles that end a series, or that never receive a warranted follow-up, are often looked back upon fondly. 2K Sports has several of those in their past catalog alone. MLB 2K12 will not be joining them in high-regard. What 2K Sports has produced is a game that makes it apparent the end is near and it's clear that the company has no further plans for baseball considering how little effort was put forward. By Corey Andress Whether you think WWE is the pinnacle of sports entertainment or a silly circus, there's no denying the popularity of its unique blend of violence and melodrama. With that in mind, it's less than surprising to see the classic 1991 arcade game WWE WrestleFest making its way on to iOS devices. Spruced up, with a roster of classic old-school fighters and new blood, it offers a chance to relive a time when fighting games had all the subtle nuances of a chair to the face.  (...

The UFC as a video game franchise and THQ faced a somewhat do-or-die scenario with the release of UFC Undisputed 3. While the launch of the original back in 2009 turned out to be a huge hit the follow-up was a disappointment both financially and in terms of product quality. The company had to deliver with UFC 3 or its growth potential going forward would be greatly diminished and brand tarnished further. Thankfully, for the most part, UFC Undisputed 3 is an excellent product that has thoroug...

The failure of UFC Undisputed 2010 to capitalize on the success of the first entry in the series forced THQ and UFC to reevaluate the viability of their product as a yearly release. The result has been a nearly two year gap that now culminates with the arrival of UFC Undisputed 3. The extra time has paid some substantial dividends - but one design decision in particular and troubled online performance remain concerns.  (more…)...

Career mode in UFC Undisputed 3 has succeeded not by adding anything revolutionary but instead by removing elements of frustration. The focus now primarily shifts to the fights and career advancement with the option of investing more time on the training and sponsorship elements. Meanwhile stats aren't as much of a concern to manage while navigation has been streamlined and loading times reduced. (more…)...

With over a year and a half since its last release the UFC Undisputed franchise had the benefit of considerable time to both improve and polish the final product. From what I experienced at a recent THQ preview event it would seem at least on the surface that they have succeeded in both respects with UFC Undisputed 3. Mixed martial arts is a dynamic and complex sport. To try and explain the improvements made, and why they make the game more fun and ultimately more realistic, I will use so...
