MLB 15: The Show – Hits and Misses Review
MLB 15: The Show might very well be the most complete product in the series' history. Areas of strength have been improved upon considerably but those that have been deficient in the past for the most part continue to be so. It's one of the few sports games that can be assessed fairly easily and defined by its clear positives and negatives. That makes it a game that can be either purchased, or passed on, with confidence based on an individual's interests. Check out the full review of MLB 15:...
EA Sports UFC: Hits and Misses
Hope for the future of UFC games were high when EA Sports announced the acquisition of the license just over two years ago. There was to be significant development time and investment made prior to release of the first entry in the series, it would launch on the new systems and have an opportunity similar to how Fight Night Round 3 stood out early in the previous generation, and the company was coming off a good first effort in the sport with 2010's EA Sports MMA.
It's especially di...
MLB 14: The Show – PS4 Hits and Misses
MLB 14: The Show on the PlayStation 3 didn't end up being the complete product that was MLB 13. Not surprisingly the game received less than the typical publicity at the time since many were waiting on the PS4 version for this year with higher hopes considering the capabilities of the new system. While it has retained all the same features, promises were really never made that it would do anything more than improve on the graphics of the earlier version.
In that regard the game has suc...
MLB 14: The Show – Hits and Misses
The Pastapadre Sports Game of the Year in 2013 was MLB 13: The Show and for the follow-up SCEA focused on areas of strength while also attempting to address the issue of length of games. Unfortunately the Achilles' heel of the series has reappeared harming the product arguably even more than in the past.
The PS4 version, which is now just three weeks away, will be essentially the same exact game with the exception of advanced visuals and some other technical improvements so as a whole imp...
NBA Live 14: Hits and Misses
When EA Sports cancelled NBA Elite 11 and NBA Live 13 the company attempted to capitalize as best they could on the failures by framing the decisions as if they had done consumers a favor. That of course was not the primary consideration behind the moves to cancel them - however in the end it has to be recognized that no one felt ripped off over the four years since their last sim NBA game released.
That was a big reason that many remained open to the return of NBA Live along with the new...
Next-Gen Madden NFL 25: Hits and Misses
Madden NFL 25 was a disappointment on the Xbox 360 and PS3 but the arrival of the Xbox One and PS4 brings promise of a fully featured product with improved gameplay and atmosphere. That would certainly represent a much better entry situation than how the previous generation was welcomed in and for the most part EA Sports has achieved that goal. It just may not be enough to get consumers excited since the base product it builds on was already lagging so far behind in the minds of many. (more...
Next-Gen NBA 2K14: Hits and Misses
NBA 2K14 represents a phenomenal first effort on the next-gen systems. It immediately shows off the capabilities of the new hardware and provides fresh experiences coupled with the reliably excellent gameplay consumers have come to expect from the series. No game is perfect though and NBA 2K14 has its share of faults. Continue on for what NBA 2K14 did well and where it faltered in this Hits and Misses review. (more…)...
Madden NFL 25: Hits and Misses
Madden NFL 25 released without any truly defined expectations. With an anniversary year being heavily promoted it stood to reason that EA Sports would pour resources into the game - releasing at the tail end of the current generation where it peaked in the last - and realize the benefits of having rebuilt eight years ago and overcoming some of those struggles as of late.
At the same time launching on the Xbox One and PS4 in November the next-gen version of the game was sure to siphon off ...
