It's a top heavy week of releases as Fast Five, which has raked in over $600 million worldwide, arrives along with a slight box office disappointment in Scream 4. Beyond that I would highly recommend picking up Friday Night Lights - which finished it's brilliant five season run earlier this year. There are also a number of classics introduced on Blu-ray.  (more…)...

There is really only one noteworthy release this week and that is Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The final entry in the trilogy has collected over $1.1 billion worldwide making it the largest in the series and the fifth biggest film of all-time. As have some other prominent movies recently Transformers has slotted its release to be on its on on Friday. •Transformers: Dark of the Moon (Buy at Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray/DVD Combo) When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into ...

One of the surprise break-out hits of the summer, the comedy Bridesmaids, leads the way this week in DVD/Blu-ray releases - along with a special 70th Anniversary Edition of the Disney Classic Dumbo. There are also some decent TV series to consider with comedy favorites Raising Hope and Modern Family topping the list. •Bridesmaids (Buy at Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray/DVD Combo) Picked as her best friend's maid of honor, lovelorn and broke Annie looks to bluff her way through the expensive...

It's a highly anticipated week of releases as Star Wars finally makes it to Blu-ray alongside one of the hits of the summer movie season Thor. There are also a number of television seasons for series with devoted fan bases. My top recommendation of the group is Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (though I'd suggest watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand first as the prequel holds more impact that way). (more…)...

This week of DVD and Blu-ray releases brings one of the best films of the summer in X-Men: First Class. There are also a couple of the best comedies on TV and one of the best dramas with Community, The Office and Fringe. I can confidently recommend all of those as potential purchases. Top to bottom a very strong group of options this week.  (more…)...

This week of DVD and Blu-ray releases is pretty weak with one option that will appeal to teens and the latest from Tyler Perry. TV does have a better presence with the most recent seasons of series such as House and Sons of Anarchy.   (more…)...

Though lacking a high profile release this week there are a number of intriguing options coming to DVD and Blu-ray. The Beaver was well received but the controversy around Mel Gibson led to the film never getting a wide theatrical release. The highest rated cable movie of the year (Phineas & Ferb) arrives on DVD and The Greatest Movie Ever Sold is another interesting documentary from Morgan Spurlock - this time taking on the movie industry and product placement. There are also two classi...

After last week was seemingly all about comedies this week brings some more serious DVD/Blu-ray releases. The best reviewed are Jane Eyre and The Conspirator which both played only on a limited number of screens when in theaters. Cult favorite The Big Lebowski also gets a limited edition Blu-ray that includes a digital copy and 28 page book packaging with extras.  (more…)...
