Guardians of the Galaxy Shatters August Box Office Record
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was expected to challenge for the highest opening weekend in August box office history but it blew right past 2007's Bourne Ultimatum which pulled in $69 million. Guardians finished the weekend with an estimated $94 million. That makes it the third biggest opening of the year behind only Transformers: Age of Extinction ($100 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million).

Though it is still running behind the earnings of Revenge of the Fallen domestically, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has set new box office records for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
