Robert Downey Jr. Signs On for Next Two Avengers Films
Marvel has announced they have reached an agreement with Robert Downey Jr. on a two picture deal that will see him return as Iron Man (Tony Stark) but only in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. As things stand now there will be no more Iron Man films.
Recent word had been that Downey Jr. was not just holding out for a better deal for himself - and unlikely to head up future Iron Man movies because of the toll they took physically - but to ensure other actors in the Marvel films would be c...
The Avengers 2 Will Include Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
The latest edition of Entertainment Weekly has confirmed two new characters which will appear in The Avengers 2. Joss Whedon has written Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch into the screenplay. Though it is very early in the process and re-writes will follow it's interesting that at this stage they are going to be involved and a drastic shift away from them completely would seem unlikely.
Due to a licensing quirk the characters could be optioned into the X-Men films but Marvel has them availabl...
Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Preview Trailer and Concept Images
The release of Marvel's Phase One limited edition Blu-ray set this week has brought with it some fresh new looks at "Phase Two". For Iron Man 3, which has shown off plenty in advance of its release next month, that doesn't mean much. But in regards to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even Ant-Man it represents either the first look at those films or completely new concept art to examine.
*Unfortunately the video has been pulled down...

Review: The Avengers
Years of build-up in creating the "Marvel Universe" through five individual films finally culminates with The Avengers which brings together a number of popular superheroes to battle Loki and an army under his command. At times Marvel received criticism for shoehorning in elements of S.H.I.E.L.D - the organization defending the planet - or other story threads in those earlier movies that wouldn't get their payoff until later. I always enjoyed those moments however and it was definitely wo...
Opening Weekend Box Office Record Shattered by The Avengers
Most expected The Avengers to challenge the $169 million opening weekend box office record held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 but few thought it even possible for a film to reach the number that it has - $200.3 million.
Even with rising ticket prices padded by 3D and IMAX surcharges the $200 million mark seemed impossible to reach based on the finite number of screens and showings and the rarity of an event that could draw crowds of such a magnitude. It was the perfect s...
