It’s unprecedented for an annualized league licensed sports game to hold back until one month out from release before making official the date, cover athlete, and opening up the ability to pre-order. That’s the case with NBA Live 18 though which waited until today to do just that.
NBA Live 18 will release on September 15 and at a discounted price of $40. The catch is that the price is only available to those who pre-order the game and it’ll move up to $60 after the 15th. The demo and EA Access trial period may provide enough confidence for some consumers to make that commitment. James Harden is featured on the cover.
The demo for the game will be out in North America on PS4 and Xbox One tomorrow and includes the ability to start (and carry over to the full game) The One career mode along with a Finals rematch of Warriors vs Cavaliers.
The WNBA makes its video game debut in NBA Live 18 which also includes the First Take duo of Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman for segments within the career mode.
While Franchise Mode has clearly been put on the back burner in favor of Ultimate Team and Longshot there are some new features and improvements to look forward to with Madden NFL 18. The biggest addition is the ability to start a Franchise from any point during the real NFL season, while commentary will capitalize more on crucial game situations and league-wide stories plus a customizable draft board debuts. Read more
Back at EA Play the second season of The Journey story mode with FIFA 18 was teased in a trailer along with a first look at gameplay improvements. With the immense popularity of the The Journey in FIFA 17 – over 12 million people played at least a portion of it – there’s little surprise that it would be one of the biggest selling points for the upcoming edition in the series.
Thanks to retailer info we now know a lot more about the structure and new features for The Journey in FIFA 18. Objectives will be more short-term based, decisions will matter more, new personalization options are offered for main character Alex Hunter, local multiplayer has been added, and other characters will have playable stories of their own. Read more

Early screenshots have demonstrated various visual improvements but now 2K Sports is going into greater detail on the graphical work that has been done for NBA 2K18. Areas of focus range from player scanning to character creation/customization and the new Nike uniforms. 2K18 will also run at 4K/60fps on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Read more
For the second year now fans will be able to start their MyCareer in NBA 2K a week prior to release. The free Prelude will go out on Friday, September 8 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The Prelude for NBA 2K17 featured the college portion of the story mode which involved 10 different licensed universities and a series of games. The progress made was then carried over to the full game when purchased. The “2KU” tutorial mode and MyPlayer creation and customization capabilities were also packed in. It’s currently unclear what The Prelude for NBA 2K18 will center on but it’ll likely be a completely new experience.
Surf World Series is now nearing release after being first announced last December and today a free demo has gone out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game comes from independent developer Climax Studios and features arcade-style challenges and online competition. The demo includes three different events and two of the characters. Read more
