NBA 2K18 will include 16 new classic teams, taking the total to 61, along with All-Time teams for all 30 current franchises. 2K Sports has now revealed the first 2 of those 16 classic teams that will be making their debut in the game.

The 1996-97 Miami Heat were the #2 seed in the East with a 61-21 regular season record but failed to reach the NBA Finals, falling in the Eastern Conference Finals in 5 games to the Chicago Bulls. Pat Riley coached a roster that included Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning, Jamal Mashburn, Dan Majerle, and Voshon Leonard.

The 1998-99 New York Knicks finished a lockout-shortened season 27-23, entering the Eastern Conference Playoffs at the 8th seed. They would go on to reach the NBA Finals losing in 5 games to the San Antonio Spurs. Coached by Jeff Van Gundy the 98′ Knicks roster featured Patrick Ewing, Allan Houston, Larry Johnson, and Latrell Sprewell.

  • All-Time teams and many more classic teams to debut in NBA 2K18

    Posted August 11th, 2017 at 2:00 pm 15 Comments »

2K Sports today announced that All-Time teams for the 30 current NBA franchises will be featured in NBA 2K18. With a deep collection of rights to players from the past that have been built up since first being introduced in 2010 the developers have the ability to fill out compelling rosters for most of the teams in the league.

The pool of players available for those All-Time teams will be expanding as there will be 16 new classic teams debuting as well. Assuming none of the teams in NBA 2K17 are removed, that would take the total number of classic teams to 61 for 2K18.

There have been a few glaring player omissions that would be hard to ignore if left off All-Time teams, but it’s possible the likes of Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller will have relented, signing off to appear in the game this year if the money was right.

  • Super Mega Baseball 2 pushed to 2018
    by
    Posted August 11th, 2017 at 10:45 am 2 Comments »

The last that was heard of Super Mega Baseball 2 was the announcement of a planned release date for September. The desire to get the game out while the sport was still well on the minds of fans was understandable, but it would be facing a murderers’ row of sports titles that would almost certainly suffocate any chance it had of breaking out.

Today developer Metalhead Software announced that the game will be delayed into 2018. That means a likely spring release to coincide with the return of baseball.

Delaying until 2018 gives us some more time, especially for certain members of the team who were ramping down on their tasks. We’re going to use this extra time to work on small features and pieces of content that had previously been cut out of our scope – things like defensive shifts and additional art components. We’ve also always wanted to do a beta, but we weren’t able to squeeze it in before September. Now we’ll have the time to do a beta, test the game, and get feedback.

In theory the product will be stronger and its potential for success greater. The first Super Mega Baseball came out in 2014 was met by hearty praise, generating strong word of mouth and even appearances on Sports Game of the Year lists. It released in December however and wasn’t able to gain much traction with sales numbers. The follow-up will add online play, enhance the character models, refine gameplay, and provide greater customization features.

  • NBA Live 18 demo available now

After seven turbulent years for the NBA Live franchise the next edition hopes to return to stability and earn back some credibility. EA Sports is attempting to make NBA Live 18 a safer purchase by offering a demo which can be downloaded now for Xbox One or PlayStation 4, along with the upcoming 10 hour trial on EA Access and a pre-order price of just $40.

The demo includes an NBA Finals rematch between the Warriors and Cavaliers but puts even more focus on the new career mode known as The One, as you come up from the streets and into becoming a star in the NBA. Besides going down the career path there is also Live Run Pick-Up which utilizes your created character in online games that involve up to 10 user-controlled players, practice drills and shootaround gym.

Face scans can also be imported from the NBA Live companion app which is out on iOS and Android. Keep in mind that once your character hits Level 20 in the demo you will no longer be able to progress further in The One or play Live Run.

NBA Live 18 will release on September 15 and includes for the first time in a video game the WNBA, The One career mode, and the First Take duo of Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman are there to scream hot takes regarding your player.
