With Longshot in Madden NFL 18 garnering high praise this episode of the Press Row Podcast features an interview with the architects behind the franchise’s first-ever story mode. Mike Young (director, co-writer) and Adrian Todd Zuniga (co-writer) join the show to discuss the process behind crafting the story first as a movie and the evolution into a compelling interactive experience for the game that followed.

New trailer for FIFA 18’s second season of The Journey
The Journey story mode, played by over 12 million people last year, naturally received a strong push for its sequel in FIFA 18 earlier at EA Play and it’s getting another now. A large cast of soccer greats cameo or play larger roles as Alex Hunter experiences the challenges that now come with being a star. Those names include FIFA 18’s cover athlete Cristiano Ronaldo and even crossing over is the cover athlete for NBA Live 18 James Harden. Read more

Open world setting for MyPlayer characters coming with NBA 2K18
2K Sports today revealed the new open world structure for NBA 2K18 in which MyPlayers will reside. In a sense it’s reminiscent of Take Two’s (parent company of 2K Sports) own GTA Online, as the neighborhood connects NBA 2K modes that previously were isolated on their own – MyCareer, The Park, and 2K Pro-Am along with actual storefronts for player customization.

NBA 2K18 on Switch won’t be missing features found on PS4/XB1
Despite the release of NBA 2K18 being just two weeks away it took until today for anything about the Nintendo Switch version to be described or shown off by 2K Sports. Thankfully the news is good as the game will offer the very same feature set and engine found on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The only disadvantages to be found relates to the visuals – to be expected given the difference in power between the systems – and also lower framerate. Read more

PES 2018 demo is out now
The demo for Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is now available to download – it can be queued up here for PlayStation 4 and here for Xbox One.
Following last month’s online beta, which was intended primarily to test the online performance tied to both the new co-op mode which features three users on each side and the standard head-to-head matches, the demo features gameplay more representative of what will be featured in the final product. While it again offers online co-op that’s now joined by offline exhibition games.
Inlcuded are Camp Nou and Signal Iduna Par stadiums and 12 clubs: FC BARCELONA Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC, INTER, SC CORINTHIANS PAULISTA, CR Flamengo, CA BOCA JUNIORS, Club Atlético River Plate, COLO COLO, Germany, Argentina, Brazil.
Besides the online co-op PES 2018 will also include Random Selection Match and numerous visual and gameplay-related improvements. The game will release on September 12.

Top rated players in NBA 2K18
2K Sports has now revealed the top rated players by position for NBA 2K18 and there is some movement of note from the end of last season within the rankings. LeBron James is of course still the highest rated active player in the league at 97 Overall, followed closely behind by Kevin Durant and James Harden.
League MVP Russell Westbrook may still be feeling the penalty for association with the competitor’s product. This year he’s been dropped 2 points from where he finished last season and is tied with Stephen Curry among point guards. He lost 5 points from his rating going into the 2015-16 season when he was featured on the cover of NBA Live 16. Others to move by more than a point in either direction are Paul Millsap (+3), Draymond Green (+2), Kristaps Porzingis (+2), Karl-Anthony Towns (+2), Klay Thompson (+2), Devin Booker (+2), Avery Bradley (+2), Myles Turner (+2), Andrew Wiggins (+2), LaMarcus Aldridge (-2), and Jabari Parker (-2).
