The good news is that the servers have been performing surprisingly well for NBA 2K18 even under the intense traffic load surrounding release and with multiple online-based modes now merged together to create an open-world “neighborhood.” Unfortunately there is one serious issue widespread enough that does have to do with the servers, and that’s MyPlayer characters being lost with the corruption of save files. That seems to have been occurring most often after a disconnect that then results in a crash to the console dashboard. Read more
The first roster update to reflect regular season performance is now available to download in Madden NFL 18. The updates this season won’t only matter to those playing online or starting a new Franchise as they’ll also be applied to each week’s scheduled games with Play Now LIVE.
Skill position players will naturally be at an advantage early in the season getting identified for upgrades, but they’re also the ones most exposed to potential downgrades. Among the winners for the update are Kareem Hunt (+2 to 77), Dalvin Cook (+2 to 82), Mike Daniels (+2 to 92), Calais Campbell (+1 to 92), Sam Bradford (+1 to 84), and Alex Smith (+1 to 82). Heading down are Andy Dalton (-1 to 83), Eddie Lacy (-3 to 79), and Kirk Cousins (-1 to 84).
Other notable movers will be noted when the full details are released.
NHL 18 is probably the strongest entry in the EA Sports series in recent memory for newcomers or inexperienced players however veterans may not see as much of a difference from last year as they would have hoped. With the new arcade mode NHL THREES, co-op (local or online) available in most of the modes, a new tutorial and helpful on-screen indicators for lower difficulty levels, NHL 18 is at the very least more accommodating than previous editions.
The impact of the Defensive Skill Stick shouldn’t be understated, but outside of that the gameplay experience may feel far more familiar than fresh, both on the ice and in terms of the presentation surrounding the action. Check out the full review at Sporting News.
Though only hours remain until release there will likely be few (if any) reviews ready to go live for NBA 2K18 right at launch. Between a shortage of time to dig into arguably the deepest sports game ever made, and a need to assess server performance given that many of the features rely on being connected online, my review for instance will probably be complete on Monday instead.
With that in mind, and having spent time between MyGM and MyCareer primarily up until this point, I figured it would be worth publishing my first complete game played in NBA 2K18. Above is an early season matchup in MyLeague mode with the Charlotte Hornets visiting the Milwaukee Bucks! First impression was that the gameplay feels phenomenal as the new motion system that reduces the reliance on animations shone through immediately upon playing.
The extraordinary post-release support for Rocket League is set to continue with an upcoming Autumn Update for the game that’s set to go out on September 28. Included is a new seasonal arena called Farmstead, revamping of other arenas to a standard layout, the option of turning the goalposts and surrounding walls transparent, plus many new customization items.
Additionally developer Psyonix announced that a beta for a new Tournaments feature is expected before the year is up, an internal party system will be rolling out, and a new limited-time event system providing opportunity to earn more customization items is also in the works.
EA Sports has today released a demo for FIFA 18 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This is the first opportunity to play FIFA 18 in advance of its EA Access trial that is expected to begin on September 20. The demo provides an early preview experience of The Journey’s second season continuing the story of Alex Hunter along with basic exhibition matches.
Experience FIFA 18’s Real Player Motion Technology, a groundbreaking animation system that unlocks a new level of realistic, responsive, and fluid gameplay. Player Personalities give some of the biggest stars in the world the distinct traits of their real-world counterparts, Team Styles let players mimic their favourite clubs’ on-field tactics, and Immersive Atmospheres bring some of the football world’s most famous stadiums to life during matches. Plus, enjoy the brand-new broadcast overlays for LaLiga and MLS, as well as vibrant and region-specific sights and sounds that make football’s biggest stadiums come to life.
12 clubs are included in the demo: Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Atetico de Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, Boca Juniors, C.D. Guadalajara, and Vissel Kobe. Four stadiums are featured with Santiago Bernabeu, La Bombonera, King Fahd, and StubHub Center.
Does the NBA Live franchise have any life left in it to ever make a legitimate comeback? EA Sports has continued attempts to resuscitate its once-popular basketball series only to fail time and time again. Given the track record there would be little reason to expect NBA Live 18 to be a really good game but it comes surprisingly close to achieving just that.
NBA Live 18 is a simplified and fun game to play with an excellent career mode that unfortunately proves to be an incomplete product when its mess of a Franchise mode comes under inspection. Still, by proving enjoyable and accessible, for the first time since 2009 Live is a viable alternative on the marketplace for basketball fans. The pre-order discount requires a commitment to purchasing but at $40 it’s a little easier to justify than the $60 it’ll become on Friday. Check out the full review at Sporting News!
