Apparently because the three month long cover vote process for NCAA Football 14 could not be made more irritating given that it comes to a close at the end of the week, EA Sports has extended the campaign for the cover of Madden NFL 25. Slated to officially begin next Monday with two brackets of 32 players (legends in one and current stars in the other) the company is making the last slot for the former determined by a “play-in” vote.
The matchup features Jerry Rice vs Cris Carter with support being cast through the Twitter hashtags #Madden25Rice and #Madden25Carter. Thankfully besides this one “play-in” the rest of the voting for the cover will go through the same ESPN SportsNation page utilized in past years rather than relying on social media tallies. That a 49er and Viking are up against each other for the last spot suggests it will not be a bracket consisting of one representative from each team.
When the one year reprieve for the MLB 2K series was announced back in January expectations were set understandably low. The poorly regarded series had been cancelled only to be resurrected when MLB settled with significantly reduced terms in order to have a product on the market for the Xbox 360. Having baseball for the largest console base in North America was viewed as a necessity. However being saddled with a constrained development cycle along with a limited budget and no apparent future aspirations meant there was little reason to be encouraged about the potential of MLB 2K13. Read more

As the NFL and EA approach the final year of the current exclusive contract to produce league licensed video games all eyes will be on whether an extension is reached between the two parties. Considering that extensions to the deal have been reached in February 2008 (for three years) and February 2011 (for one year) news on that could be coming soon.
Assistant Executive Director of External Affairs for the NFLPA, George Atallah, actually addressed the exclusive license in an AMA on Reddit yesterday. Since the exclusive license was signed in 2004 no one representing the league has publicly addressed the frustration that many felt as market options were taken away leaving only Madden. Read more
Earlier this week the first opportunity to see MLB 13: The Show in action slipped out. Reaction was mostly positive except as it relates to the commentary as the faults stood out even more against the backdrop of the Playoffs where the magnitude of each event is dramatically increased. Now additional videos are available to watch and evaluate with segments of gameplay featuring the White Sox at Cubs, Royals at Phillies, Angels at Tigers, and Angels at Nationals. Continue on to check them out and leave any further observations in the comments! Read more
The third episode of the Press Row Hangout features the duo of myself and Rich Grisham of GamesRadar. Ideally the shows will offer three or more contributors going forward but it was just unable to come together this week. Topics discussed include the possibility of game prices going up with the next generation, MLB 13: The Show info and lack thereof for MLB 2K13, the choice made by both to go without demos, the never-ending NCAA Football 14 cover vote process, and more thoughts on the PS4. As always leave any feedback or suggestions for things to discuss in the future in the comments! Read more
