For those who have followed the ongoing cover campaign for NCAA Football 14 since it began in mid-December or at any point since then, it has ranged from acting as a mild distraction to being a major annoyance. EA Sports has incessantly pushed it through social media while making huge mistakes along the way by settling on Facebook polls as the method of collection, which was not the way it was originally explained and instead deciding to add even more polls mid-round, along with changing end dates for rounds arbitrarily and expecting fans to vote so many times that fatigue set in and indifference won out.  Read more

Outside of Postseason mode MLB 13: The Show didn’t carry with it a bevy of flashy new features. What it did do however was work to refine and enhance all aspects of the series while increasing accessibility. Outside of an issue with CPU pitchers serving up fat first pitches most at-bats and an occasional stutter out of the pitching delivery (both of which are documented quite well in threads on Operation Sports – first pitch meatballs here and stutter here – but also noted by myself) this may be the year where The Show has achieved a near ideal balance between realism and fun combined with a great deal of content and different ways to play.

Leave your impressions and observations of the first few days with MLB 13: The Show in the comments and vote in the poll below!

As first noted today by Polygon, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen spoke at the Wedbush Technology Conference and dropped an interesting line that the company could have “a couple of new sports franchises” on the way. Statement from EA Sports has since been provided to Kotaku, predictably that Jorgensen was just referring to UFC and some overseas projects, but the company wasn’t going to announce anything new at this time so that doesn’t eliminate the possibility that new franchises could be in the pipeline.  Read more

Having put in 35 innings of “work” with MLB 2K13 and time skimming through Association and MyPlayer modes there’s really no reason to dig any deeper into the game to review. Conjecture that it would be 2K12 with a roster update and only the absolutely necessary changes like the Astros to the AL and new schedule was in fact on the mark and as it turns out generous. It’s a product that on its own is certainly not 2K9 levels of bad, it’s okay for those who don’t care all that much about baseball or haven’t played recent iterations of the series, but represents a year that was not utilized to improve it yet the price remains the same.  Read more

    mlb2k13soundtrack

With MLB 2K12 a fair amount of ridicule was thrown 2K Sports’ way for counting the soundtrack among the game’s five primary features. With 2K13 the company failed to promote anything including the soundtrack, but there is in fact a new playlist included.
