The competition involving 32 legends and 32 active players to win the cover of Madden NFL 25 has now moved forward to the second round. A campaign to push Jake Delhomme over Joe Montana failed miserably as 92% of the votes went Montana’s way. A day after claiming he was a lock to win the whole thing Chad Johnson has thankfully been knocked out by Tim Brown.
Over 21 million votes were cast in the round. Biggest margin of victories went to Barry Sanders (95%), Jerry Rice (94%), Adrian Peterson (94%), and Deion Sanders (93%). Barely scraping by to advance was Von Miller (51%) which despite the seeding was an upset over Victor Cruz, followed by LeSean McCoy (52%), Darrelle Revis (52%), and Dez Bryant (54%).
The most surprising result, and one that suggests the more “old school” of the legends are at a distinct disadvantage, is LaDainian Tomlinson dispatching Randall Cunningham in easy fashion. Colin Kaepernick could be in trouble as he only managed 62% over the 16 seed Antonio Gates.
Get your votes in for the second round through the official Madden NFL 25 SportsNation page. The deadline to cast votes before advancing to the next round is March 27.
With the game releasing in just a week, the demo having been out for two, and an early opportunity to play only days away, there isn’t a whole lot more to be learned about Tiger Woods 14. Regardless EA Sports has released a new blog centered on what to expect out of career mode. That includes mention of the new LPGA path, incorporating all four majors for the first time, and feature introductions like the ability to set tee times and the money leaderboard – the info is also accompanied by screenshots.
An early chance to play Tiger 14 will be available when the game goes live through the Season Ticket subscription program on Friday. The Season Ticket provides three days of early access to a downloaded retail version and 20% off DLC (though trouble with that arose on the PS3 last year) for $25 a year and applies to five different sports titles.
For the next week a number of games are being sold at half off their retail price through EA’s Origin store. That even includes Need for Speed: Most Wanted U which released just today making it the steal of the lot. Other games of note coming in at $30 are FIFA 13 and NHL 13 along with Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3. Shipping for physical copies of games through the store is free as long as the order is over $25.
Demonstrating just how traumatic an unfavorable outcome in the player likeness lawsuit currently making its way through the legal system could be, a recent court filing suggests that the lifting of the current rules on amateurism would result in some schools exiting Division I or Bowl Subdivision football. University of Texas, Wake Forest, Utah State, and the California State University system all contributed to the filing by expressing that the need to pay players would make it unlikely that athletic funding would then be able to support all the sports required and that it would also make it difficult to comply with Title IX.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany is even claiming that an outcome in the player likeness lawsuit that forces payments to players would result in the conference de-emphasizing athletics. While this is somewhat hyperbolic – there would still be far too much money to be made to take such an action – it does shed a light on the frame of mind the NCAA, CLC, and EA Sports have as they prepare for a possible negative judgment or agreement to settle. Read more

A few days of voting still remain in the first round of the Madden NFL 25 cover tournament. 64 candidates are involved with 32 legends in one bracket and 32 current stars in the other. Last week an evaluation of the match-ups in the “Old School” bracket was made and now is a chance to look at how the “New School” side shapes up. Read more
Branching out a bit to something different here is Frozen Endzone, just announced by Mode 7 Games, which will be coming to the PC and Mac in 2014 following a beta to be held later this year. The game will attempt to meld a highly-stylized futuristic professional football theme with strategic turn-based gameplay in both single and multiplayer environments.
The first trailer is out now and the game is available to vote on for release through Steam’s Greenlight service. Continue on to check out the trailer and leave your thoughts in the comments on whether the concept is found be intriguing or of little interest! Read more
