With baseball one of the last remaining sports that have competition – whether that continues to be the case in 2014 is up in the air at this point – the player face comparison between the two games has been one of the most popular features of the spring the last few years. The Show has won out in all three battles: 21-6 margin in 2012, 14-6 in 2011, and 11-8-1 in 2010.
For 2013 the set of faces has been expanded to 40. While MLB 2K13 is practically a carbon copy of 2K12 it still could have some better faces than The Show. For the sake of time the majority of the images were captured from the All-Star teams. Here are the first 13 to vote on – the other sets will follow next week with the results and analysis later. Read more
The latest edition of the Press Row Hangout features myself and Rich Grisham from GamesRadar. Discussion falls heavily on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 before giving way to the recent PAX East sports gaming panel, the Madden NFL 25 cover vote, and answering some viewer questions. As always leave any feedback on the show or suggestions for future discussions in the comments!
The cover campaign featuring both legends and current stars for Madden NFL 25 has reached the third round. The “Old School” and “New School” brackets are now in the Elite Eight stage with the eventual winner from each side facing off for the honor.
No huge surprises were found in the previous round as the lowest seeds remaining are fives. The only mild upset was Michael Strahan squeezing by Kurt Warner. Colin Kaepernick had a second straight weak outing and could be looking at getting bounced by Arian Foster now and Andrew Luck appears to be the underdog to Russell Wilson. Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, and Adrian Peterson crushed their parings by tallying over 90% of the returns.
Voting is completed through the ESPN SportsNation Page. The third round runs until April 3rd when it will move forward to the semifinals for each bracket.
Even with a lack of post-release support it would be hard to beat $10 for a still relevant in-season sports title. That’s what is now available with the PC download version (unlockable through Steam) of NBA 2K13 through Amazon. Though the PC hasn’t received a patch and probably won’t – and lacks MyTeam mode and All-Star content – there are also plenty of mods that could be used to make the game better. There is easily $10 of value there for those who don’t already have 2K13 especially with the season still nearly three months away from completion.
The prevalence of downloadable content for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series has not just discouraged some consumers from buying on a yearly basis but has even become a point of contention as evidenced by reaction towards the system implemented in Tiger 13. Ultimately spending well over $100 on the game with all the courses made available every year is something most cannot justify yet an effective alternative system has still not been offered. Read more
With Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 having been out since Friday for those in the Season Ticket program and now available to everyone a Country Club has been set up on the Xbox 360 version for those who would like to participate. The CC name is PastaPadre and the password is padre.
This year Country Clubs have been expanded to allow for 100 members, have added club voice chat, and contain several other new elements. Since slots are limited make sure to sign in ASAP to secure one. Inactive members will eventually be removed to open space if needed.
Live Tournaments will be held on a regular basis for Country Club members. The first one rounder is already ongoing and runs through the end of the day and another will be set up for the end of the week. A four rounder is slated to begin on Wednesday and run through the weekend.
The first patch for MLB 13: The Show is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday the 26th and SCEA has delivered the full list of changes to expect. The most notable issues with the game included the CPU throwing the first pitch of at-bats too often down the heart of the plate and a hitch that would occasionally appear after the ball left the pitcher’s hands. An attempt to address both problems have been made in the update. Continue on to check out all the info! Read more
