With a hearing in June regarding class-action status, and a trial tentatively slated to begin a year later, news on the lawsuit against the NCAA, CLC, and EA will likely become more frequent going forward than has been the case until now. A few happenings from the last week include the USC AD going on record with the belief the NCAA may lose the case and the CLC and EA providing evidence they have not used accurate player likenesses in video games. Though how Ultimate Team will be built for NCAA Football 14 may remain a mystery until May 15 – whether that be using current “unnamed” players, legends, generics, or some mishmash of the three – EA Sports perceives it to be a major new addition to the series as they are featuring it in all retailer pre-order bonuses. Gamestop was the first to leak the introduction of the mode and now others have followed with their respective exclusive conference packs.
•Amazon: Pac-12 Conference Pack
•Best Buy: Big Ten Conference Pack
•Gamestop: SEC Conference Pack
•Origin: Big East Conference Pack
•Target: ACC Conference Pack
•Walmart: Big 12 Conference Pack
Of far greater impact will be whether Amazon again offers NCAA at a lower price or provides a pre-order promotional credit to drive sales. With NCAA 13 they simply sold the game for $45 (that was put into place about a month before release) and for NCAA 12 they included a $20 promotional credit (appearing less than a week before release).
The mobile baseball management-sim iOOTP 2013 arrived today in the App Store. It is available only on iOS for $5 and includes a free HD version that applies to the iPad accompanied by the standard version for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The game features three central management modes: “Major Leagues” (choose a team and play out the 2013 season), “Fictional” (iOOTP creates one of four fictional baseball worlds and populates it with fresh players and clubs -select a team and build a dynasty from scratch), and “Historical Replay” (Choose one of three past seasons — 1901, 1902, or 2009 — and see if it produces a different outcome. Every other year in history is available as in-app purchase). Improvements for iOOTP ’13 include updated major league rosters and the top 20 minor league prospects for each team, a redesigned interface, better trading AI, a new player development system, achievements, and more. Look for a review to hit the site mid-next week!
The cover campaign featuring both legends and current stars for Madden NFL 25 has reached the semifinals in the two brackets. The “Old School” and “New School” participants are now in the Final Four stage with the eventual winners from each side facing off for the cover honors.
Another round has passed without any big surprises and the result is some epic pairings to vote on. Colin Kaepernick is gone in what some might consider an upset due to his #1 seeding but he never had near the support of other high seeds – it was evident after the first round that he wouldn’t be a contender. The match-ups are Joe Montana vs Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice vs Deion Sanders, Arian Foster vs Russell Wilson, and Robert Griffin III vs Adrian Peterson.
Voting is completed through the ESPN SportsNation Page. The fourth round runs until April 10th when it will move forward to the finals for each bracket.
EA Sports has released a first look video at some of the improvements to expect with the gameplay engine in NCAA Football 14. That will include an improved version of the “Infinity Engine” physics that was first introduced in Madden NFL 13, and enhanced running game through the use of cuts, acceleration bursts, and new jukes.
In addition to those things highlighted in the video a strong focus on the college option game has been made. NCAA 14 will go as far as to highlight key defenders before the snap so users can read their movements in order to help make the best decision. More details on features will come for Presentation on 4/18, Ultimate Team on 5/15, Dynasty on 5/28, and Season on 6/17. Continue on for the video and leave any thoughts in the comments! Read more

Ultimate Team mode looks to be coming to the NCAA Football series if the pre-order bonus posted by Gamestop is any indication. The listing was first noted by Operation Sports. In the past any bonuses that have gone up prior to official announcements have never been inaccurate so there is no reason to think this one isn’t legitimate. Other retailers may follow with different conference bonuses soon considering how it is being offered. Read more
