With E3 only days away Microsoft decided to get the bad news out of the way before then by detailing their practices regarding second hand games, online requirement, and mandatory Kinect. Still confusing and certain to lead to frustration in the future the response from consumers and much of the press regarding the information has been nothing short of explosive as perceived rights are being infringed upon.  Read more

The latest edition of the Press Row Podcast focuses almost entirely on E3 with discussion on memories from past events and expectations for the event next week. Keep in mind though this was recorded prior to Microsoft confirming policies regarding second hand games and online requirements – something I’ll be posting thoughts on later today.

  • NBA 2K14 Pre-Order Bonus Detailed

    kingjamesbonuspack

For NBA 2K14 once again 2K Sports is providing exclusive content for pre-ordering that won’t be specific to a single retailer. Last year it was the All-Star Weekend package and this time the incentive relates to cover athlete LeBron James.

The “King James” Bonus pack will be included in all pre-ordered copies whether it be at Amazon, Gamestop, or elsewhere and applies only to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. The PC is again being left out and plans for the Xbox One and PS4 will come at a later date.

The bonus pack mentions a new “Path to Greatness” mode which could be an offshoot of MyCareer or something more in line with 2K11’s Jordan Challenge. Unfortunately confirmed through this is the return of Virtual Currency which was arguably the worst part of 2K13 adversely infecting several modes and influencing how to play or spend to compete. Hopefully the system has been reworked based on complaints. The 10K VC included is $3 worth.

With a ton of footage from NCAA Football 14 expected out of E3 next week EA Sports has released the first look at the game in action through directly-captured video. It is very limited – running just one minute and skipping post-play scenes – and features LSU at Texas A&M. Interestingly Johnny Manziel is not being used suggesting they took him out so they wouldn’t have the references made to him being in promotional material with the pending lawsuit looming or worst case scenario the rosters are going to be made a mess of intentionally. 2K Sports has announced that reigning MVP LeBron James will be the cover athlete for NBA 2K14. The news likely would have been pushed back had the Pacers knocked the Heat out of the playoffs but instead 2K can now celebrate nabbing the best player in the league – maybe necessary to avoid a promotional letdown after the exceptional representation they secured for the last three NBA 2K covers.

NBA 2K14 is confirmed for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and then later coming to the Xbox One and PS4 when those new consoles launch. No word on whether it will release for Vita but it will not be coming to Wii U. 2K also stated there will be news coming out of E3 and given that the company will not be in attendance that lends credence to the idea the game will show up at the Sony press conference on Monday possibly with the first reveal of the next-gen version.
