Earlier this month E3 delivered the first actual display of the next-gen sports games scheduled to release along with the consoles later this year or early into 2014. Some had legitimate gameplay trailers and others stuck with pre-rendered footage but most had something in-game to actually showcase at the event. Read more
With the season complete the final roster update for NBA 2K13 arrived today. The update releases injured players to active status providing for an opportunity to use Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo, and others who were out for the whole season or had theirs end prematurely.
Sadly zero ratings adjustments were made which just adds yet another example to how poorly updates were handled throughout the season. With NBA Live 14 pushing out roster updates within an hour after every game ends the scrutiny on 2K14’s post-release support will only increase and hopefully that will lead to them approaching their own process more seriously.
2K Sports debuted a teaser trailer for WWE 2K14 on last night’s Raw broadcast. This will be the first release under the WWE license acquired by Take Two in February that will run through 2018.
Development studio Yuke’s continued work on this title which was already well into development when the transfer from now defunct THQ occurred. There isn’t much to glean from the trailer except again there being a focus on “legends” and the Attitude Era and getting a few glimpses at some character models. The Rock was announced as the cover star back in April. WWE 2K14 will release October 29 only on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Read more
Based on the results of the poll posted last week the demo for NCAA Football 14 has proven valuable for consumers who may have been on the fence about a purchase and beneficial for EA Sports in creating some encouraging word-of-mouth in the weeks leading up to release.
A full 50% of the over 4300 respondents cast their vote in the “Encouraged – More likely to buy” column. That is a huge percentage for a poll of this nature. On the flip side the “Less likely to buy” choice was limited to only 5% and that is another really significant result. “No Change – Likely to buy” came in at 22%, “No Change – Unlikely to buy” was 14%, and “No Change – Undecided” finished at 9%. Read more
EA Sports has released a new trailer for Madden NFL 25 and this one details the new Madden Share feature. Though the news relates to the 360/PS3 version the fact that EA has declared the One/PS4 version will be similar or near identical in feature sets (besides what it is offering extra with the Ignite engine) means it can probably be expected there as well. Read more

On Thursday EA Sports released two pieces of media for Madden NFL 25 through Instagram. Creative director Mike Young sent out an image of William “The Refrigerator” Perry who was confirmed in April as one of the new additions this year. As a legend he’ll be available to control as a “Player” in Connected Franchise or collectible in Madden Ultimate Team. Unfortunately he’ll start out exclusive to those who buy the game at Target but should become available to either purchase or unlock at a later date.
The other, and somewhat more substantial thing to check out, utilized Instagram’s new video feature and showed off a single running play from the 360/PS3 version that featured some nifty footwork by the running back and successful trap blocking from the offensive line. Remember it’s an off-screen video taken with a cell phone so it’s not really representative of how the game looks in terms of the graphics. Instead the value is in seeing an example of the significant improvement made to player control and blocking.
