Considering the proximity to their respective releases the point at which the majority of sports video games have reached their highest value may be when they are significantly discounted for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Most are still in-season, relevant and strongly supported. Of course there’s a lot more than just the games to contemplate picking up, whether it be for yourself or others, so here’s a roundup of the most enticing deals from various retailers.
Like last year arguably the best deals on sports games are the digital copies through Microsoft and Sony, with Gamestop and Walmart beating those prices but for most of them not by much (plus consideration to convenience vs option for resale). Amazon is expected to match or better them with the site’s limited-time lightning deals. Special opportunities have already popped up and will continue to over the coming days, and may only last a few minutes, so make sure to be following on Twitter for alerts to them and others all the way through Monday! Read more
SCEA has announced a closed alpha for MLB The Show 19 that is currently scheduled to take place from Dec. 13-19. The alpha for the upcoming game due out Mar. 26 will include playable Events, Battle Royale, Play with Friends, and Diamond Dynasty vs CPU.
Sign up to participate in the alpha here but inclusion is not guaranteed. Do so by November 27th to be in the pool of those eligible to be selected.
Based on the details provided thus far regarding gameplay changes, the alpha looks to be the patch that everyone hoped MLB 18 would get but ultimately never materialized. The developers claim that contact hitters will be more effective and better balanced against power hitters, bunting much improved, and fastballs/strikeouts much more of a factor.
Madden NFL 19 received its fifth patch of substance today, and in recent years the mid-late November patch has become notable for adding significant new features. In the case of Madden NFL 19 that includes an update to playbooks for the first time in series’ history to go along with a number of improvements to gameplay. Read more
2K Sports earlier today pushed out another patch for NBA 2K19 on all platforms. This amounts to the game’s third post-release update of substance, with the last one delivering gameplay adjustments and the new shot clock rule and the first having addressed critical issues following release. This patch leans more towards the side of making fixes rather than improvements or additions. Read more

Yesterday it was Microsoft that kicked off Black Friday deals early with a sale on many digital games including most of this year’s sports titles. Today Sony launched deals of their own for PlayStation 4, with a heavy push of the first party offerings including MLB The Show 18 and 50% off its Stubs currency along with matching deals on most other games. In the Sony promotion running through next week you’ll find:
Rocket League for $10
EA Sports UFC 3 for $18
NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 for $20
MLB The Show 18 for $20
NBA Live 19 for $20
NASCAR Heat 3 for $20
The Golf Club 2019 for $30
WWE 2K19 for $30
Madden NFL 19 for $30
Madden NFL 19 HOF Edition for $32
NBA 2K19 for $30
PES 2019 for $30
NHL 19 for $30
FIFA 19 for $30
FIFA 19 Champions Edition for $40
These deals are likely close to the lows that will be seen on Black Friday, in some cases maybe just a few dollars more than the cheapest they’ll be found so it could possibly be worth skipping any stress to come and picking them up now. Check out the full list of games on sale here.
