When the settlement to the likeness case was announced yesterday many wondered what it was about the agreement that resulted in the shuttering of EA Sports’ college football series. With the dollar amount of the settlement now known it has become clear that it wasn’t the money involved but rather the avoidance of future litigation and terms that made the series no longer a viable product going forward. Read more
The Madden NFL 25 roster update following week three of the season is available to download now on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. This update includes the trade of Trent Richardson to the Colts and the Bucs move at QB benching Josh Freeman in favor of Mike Glennon.
Notable ratings climbs include Jimmy Graham (+1 to 98), Drew Brees (+1 to 97), Ndamukong Suh (+1 to 96), Justin Houston (+3 to 94), Jordy Nelson (+2 to 93), Michael Johnson (+2 to 92), Kam Chancellor (+1 to 91), Cameron Jordan (+2 to 89), Andrew Luck (+1 to 89), Jordan Cameron (+4 to 84), Josh Gordon (+3 to 84), Dontari Poe (+3 to 84), Ryan Tannehill (+2 to 84), Darnell Dockett (+3 to 82), Julius Thomas (+2 to 82), Barry Church (+4 to 79), Bilal Powell (+3 to 77), and Brian Hoyer (+5 to 76) despite throwing three picks with a poor 31.4 ESPN Total QBR.
Heading downward are Aaron Rodgers (-1 to 97), Tom Brady (-1 to 96), Nick Mangold (-2 to 92), Roddy White (-1 to 91), Ben Roethlisberger (-1 to 91), Jared Allen (-2 to 89), Eli Manning (-2 to 88), Colin Kaepernick (-1 to 88) along with 14 other 49ers that drop, and Kenny Britt (-2 to 79).
Aaron Rodgers did not lose his “Clutch” trait in this update despite a mountain of evidence that he does not deserve the designation.

Soon after the news broke that EA was ending their college football series a release was made regarding the settlement of the player likeness lawsuit that was at the center of the entire situation that threatened the future of college video games and still could take down the NCAA as it remains as the lone defendant. Games were just a small part of the claim in which players believe they are entitled to a share of broadcasting and merchandising revenues. Read more
EA Sports has officially canceled their NCAA Football series which was going to be renamed College Football next year. The news comes on the heels of individual institutions expressing a desire to get out of the video game business by pulling their licenses. The NCAA was first to withdraw licensing, multiple conferences followed, but losing the schools was when EA began to see the writing on the wall that the series would not be sustainable.
EA is currently seeking to settle the player likeness lawsuits that have led to the current situation. [UPDATE] EA and the CLC have in fact settled. More on all the news later today…
EA Sports released a relatively minor patch today for FIFA 14 that addresses some general stability issues and delivers a few fixes to game modes including the Skill Games and Creation Centre. Those items were identified early on allowing them to be included in a patch made available just a day after the game came out.
Work continues on other areas including gameplay for the next patch. EA addressed that in a statement today. Read more
For the third consecutive week EA Sports has released a $1 DLC uniform pack for NCAA Football 14. On the surface that kind of post-release support sounds great until the actual content being provided is examined to find the majority of items are just gloves while teams with full uniforms and helmets still missing from the game continue to get bypassed.
The fourth uniform pack involves Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, UCLA, and USC. With the exception of all but one school this is a pack for gloves. Michigan State gets a new uniform, helmet, and gloves. The other five only receive new gloves.
