There has been a lot of talk about features and philosophies going into NBA Live 14 but what EA Sports long ago claimed they realized they had to do – show the game off and be transparent in an effort to prove it’s not just talk after three years off from releasing games – had still yet to happen. That will apparently change on Friday with the release of the first 5-on-5 gameplay video.

The company backed that up by releasing a glimpse of gameplay action which for the first time shows that all the players are actually on the court in what appears to be a functional game. Continue on to check it out and leave any thoughts in the comments!  Read more

  • Best Sports Game of the Generation Tournament: Round of 64 Region A

With the current generation coming to a close – there will continue to be releases but they’ll no longer be the focus of development or marketing – it offers an opportunity to reflect on the continually shrinking sports genre and how things have developed in the last eight years. In order to find what the community determines to be the best sports game of the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii generation is a tournament that will run over the next several weeks.

64 games were chosen to be part of the field based on a number of factors. Obviously not all of these games were great or even good but those included at the very least did something innovative that may have had some influence on the genre since. The max number of entries from a single series was limited to three.

Seeding was determined (1 vs 16, 8 vs 9, ect) however the numbering left off the brackets and ordering mixed up in order to avoid that tainting the voting in any way. Cast your vote in each pairing based on the game you got the most enjoyment out of, did the most to try and earn your money, or meant the most to the sports gaming genre.

The first region opens up for voting today. The other three will come later in the week. Continue on for the voting and feel free to leave your thoughts on the matchups and what games should advance in the comments!  Read more

Six weeks of the NFL season now in the books and only the Broncos and Chiefs remain undefeated. They face each other weeks 11 and 13. In the race for the top pick the Giants, Jaguars, and Buccaneers remain winless.

Injuries this week will knock out Randall Cobb, Jerod Mayo, Nick Perry, DeMarcus Ware, and D.J. Williams for significant stretches of time while the situation with Jimmy Graham remains unclear. With the Bills injury situation at QB they’ve signed Matt Flynn.

Some of the players likely to go up after strong performances include Brandon Jacobs, Nick Foles, Justin Blackmon, Vernon Davis, Aqib Talib, Andre Ellington, Joseph Fauria, DeAndre Levy, Tamba Hali, Keenan Allen, and Sean Lee. Among those that are likely to drop are Eli Manning, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, Jared Allen, and Eric Fisher.

As always leave your thoughts in the comments on what players should rise or fall in the next Madden NFL 25 roster update!

  • Second Next-Gen Madden NFL 25 Highlight Video; Now They Don’t Want You To See

ESPN today released another Monday Night Football sim with footage from next-gen Madden NFL 25. The first one with Dolphins @ Saints was so poorly received that EA Sports and ESPN skipped last week’s sim seemingly in an effort to produce something more impressive. That video probably did more damage to the perception of the product than the hands-on impressions (check out the most recent Press Row Hangout and Podcast for talk of that) which have described the game as not much different than current-gen.

With the Colts @ Chargers sim it appears they attempted to make it seem better by zooming in further on players and adding some slow-motion to various moments. It doesn’t help that ESPN deleted the video from their account after seeing the feedback roll in again and now is pulling down the video from others. It’s barely an improvement over the first, which was nothing short of embarrassing for EA, but still won’t meet the expectations of those who hoped Madden would show immediate improvement. Thankfully Kotaku snagged the video and is hosting it so check it out here and return to leave your thoughts in the comments!

  • First Official Next-Gen NBA 2K14 Screenshot; Comparison With Current-Gen

2K Sports today released the first official screenshot for Xbox One/PS4 NBA 2K14. That in itself isn’t especially newsworthy after having seen brief footage of how the game should look with the E3 teaser and the recent TV commercial.

However putting the next-gen LeBron James up against current-gen will make the differences really stand out. Even details like how the jersey doesn’t float over the shoulders and the fix being made so the single digit number is under the “T” rather than the “A” are notable. Obviously the comparison won’t be perfect for a number of reasons but is intended to make the enhancements easier to identify in the screenshot. The polls posted a few days ago to gauge how consumers are now approaching the upcoming next-gen sports games shows that each of them are in a completely unique place.
