    bestgamesofgeneration

With the current generation coming to a close – there will continue to be releases but they’ll no longer be the focus of development or marketing – it offers an opportunity to reflect on the continually shrinking sports genre and how things have developed in the last eight years. In order to find what the community determines to be the best sports game of the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii generation is a tournament that will run over the next several weeks.

64 games were chosen to be part of the field based on a number of factors. Obviously not all of these games were great or even good but those included at the very least did something innovative that may have had some influence on the genre since. The max number of entries from a single series was limited to three.

Seeding was determined (1 vs 16, 8 vs 9, ect) however the numbering left off the brackets and ordering mixed up in order to avoid that tainting the voting in any way. Cast your vote in each pairing based on the game you got the most enjoyment out of, did the most to try and earn your money, or meant the most to the sports gaming genre.

This is the final region to open for the first round. Make sure to cast your votes for Region A, Region B, and Region C as well. Continue on for the voting and feel free to leave your thoughts on the matchups and what games should advance in the comments!  Read more

EA Sports today released a new gameplay trailer for Madden NFL 25 along with three clips showing the rewritten offensive line blocking logic in action with a focus on pass blocking.

The problem EA has faced as of late is that many of the improvements they have touted aren’t translating properly or being recognized and flashy trailers aren’t going to change that now that real gameplay and replay footage have circulated. Those who have seen the game up close and played it have reported there isn’t much of a visual jump and the gameplay feels largely the same as current-gen. The blocking examples shown today do a far better job of demonstrating some tangible advancements being made however. Read more

  • New Trailer for NBA Live 14

EA Sports has released an extended gameplay trailer for NBA Live 14. When the company promised 5-on-5 footage for today, and released a short video clip as a teaser, the implication was that it would be actual gameplay footage. They certainly needed to come with something fairly significant after the horrible reception that clip received. Instead they send out a flashy trailer on the heels of the competition’s far more impressive one that offers little of value considering what has already been seen.

There definitely appears to be more influence from NBA Live 10 than the previous two attempts at basketball games that got cancelled. If four years hadn’t passed and a whole new console generation arrived that would have been more encouraging to discover. Continue on to check out the trailer and leave your thoughts in the comments!  Read more

    live14trl1016

EA Sports plans to release extended 5-on-5 footage of NBA Live 14 on Friday but the reveal of a brief teaser clip has eroded what little may have been left of the remaining optimism that anyone could realistically still be carrying at this point for the game. Though a decent amount of information feature wise has been discussed the company has held back from showing the game until now. The first look at the game in action – which was deliberately selected because they felt it would impress or convey something it clearly did not – adds to a rough week which included more deflating Madden NFL 25 next-gen footage.  Read more
