Despite carrying over most of the legends from the previous iterations NBA 2K14 lost a couple big names and even a few entire teams. One of the most prominent missing players was Julius Erving. ‘Dr. J’ appeared in NBA 2K12 but was absent from 2K13 and until earlier today 2K14.

2K Sports has added Erving to the 1976-77 Philadelphia 76ers historic team however he remains missing from the 1984-85 Sixers squad. For now that one 76ers team is the only place to find him but eventually he will make it into MyTeam mode were some other legends also reside.

The deluge of info yesterday regarding the Xbox One and PS4 versions of NBA 2K14 was then followed by gameplay footage. Still there is a lot to learn about the game with just three weeks until release of the PS4. The four central modes (MyCareer, MyTeam, MyGM, and NBA Today) were discussed but not in great detail. Screenshots released today provide at least a glimpse of a few of those modes and how they’ll differ from current-gen.

There is one screenshot each that comes from MyCareer, MyTeam, and MyGM (formerly Association) modes. With MyCareer headed down a more story-driven path the screen shows the MyPlayer and another who is being set up as a “rival” beginning with the Rookie Showcase. The MyGM image comes from a contract negotiation (oddly sans agent) and displays the “Conversation Engine” that will play a part in a multitude of interactions. Head over to the FB album for 2K14 to check out all the screenshots released to date.

The Best Sports Game of the Generation Tournament continues with the field now trimmed to 32. Regions A and B saw the favorites in most pairings advance. The second round in these two regions offers match-ups that include NBA 2K11 taking on challenger Fight Night Champion and Tiger Woods 12: The Masters squaring off against 2010 FIFA World Cup. The remaining regions will have their voting open later this week. Continue on to cast your support and leave any thoughts in the comments!Ā  Read more

The first video featuring direct feed gameplay footage from next-gen NBA 2K14 comes from GamespotĀ on the heels of all the feature reveals today.

While the reviewer expresses thoughts after playing briefly what is more valuable is that first look at the game in action. Graphics certainly look significantly better and the foot-planting evident but otherwise it looks a lot like the 2K basketball consumers have been drawn to in recent years and not as drastic a change some may have envisioned with the talk of a new engine. At a press event held earlier today 2K Sports finally revealed details on what to expect from the next-gen version of NBA 2K14. There is only a little over three weeks until it arrives for the PS4 and under a month away from Xbox One. The biggest news is 2K14 will not be a current-gen port but instead was built specifically for the new hardware with a game engine called “EcoMotion”.

There are four areas of focus for next-gen NBA 2K14 in terms of modes: MyCareer, MyGM, MyTeam, and NBA Today. MyCareer and MyGM (formerly Association) are taking what appears to be dramatic departures from the traditional career and franchise mode. Online components were not touched upon today.Ā  Read more
