NBA 2K14 for the PlayStation 4 is reaching stores this week and retailers have the go ahead to sell copies immediately. That means additional details on the game thanks to the back of the box feature descriptions. That we’re getting actual news on the game from the back of the box a week before the new console releases is fairly mind-boggling but is indicative of just how down to the wire information will be arriving on all the sports titles for launch.  Read more

Of all the areas the new Ignite Engine was supposed to be of benefit to Madden NFL 25 on Xbox One and PS4, the one that has demonstrated the least in the way of dividends in all the footage to date is “Living Worlds”.

Elements that were said to be improved but have not appeared to be so include the same sparsely populated and static sidelines with generic players, completely disconnected cut scene celebrations, crowds that have numerous replicated fans in each small area and lack diversity, and differentiation in each stadium experience or the pressures of playing on the road.

A new trailer released today discusses atmosphere, emotion, the crowds, and sidelines. It’s very brief and basic though and still, outside of the single video that EA probably didn’t want out, the company hasn’t allowed or released uncut gameplay footage for consumers to judge on their own with just a week left until the PS4 arrives.  Read more

Despite getting the most hands-on exposure of the next-gen sports games prior to release – given its appearances at conventions (which has also brought gameplay videos) and Microsoft’s Xbox One road tour – EA Sports has yet to go deep into the features that separate FIFA 14 from its current-gen versions. The recent trailer further outlined them but offered little substance.

With just over a week to go until the PS4 arrives the company has released the first of four planned producer videos that will highlight the advancements coming to the series.  Read more

While post-release patch support has seemed to take a back seat with the other two current-gen sports games that will be out on PS4 and Xbox One next week, a third patch for FIFA 14 will go live on the Xbox 360 and PS3 within the next few days.

The latest update seems targeted at addressing annoyances such as laggy subbing in Career mode, random crashes, and clashing kits.  Read more

Following up for the first time since the feature reveals from a few weeks ago, 2K Sports today released a new trailer for NBA 2K14 that focuses on the “Eco-Motion” game engine that was built for the two next-gen systems. Improvements to the foot-planting were most evident in the only gameplay footage seen so far but Eco-Motion is said to also greatly enhance the atmosphere, crowd, and the emotion from players.  Read more
