While EA Sports has attempted to keep consumers from seeing NBA Live 14 in action a few copies have leaked their way out early and users have begun to stream it through the PlayStation 4’s built-in capability.

Needless to say the gameplay looks rough and the visuals are disappointing but the presentation outside of the commentary looks to be very promising. Continue on to check out the two streams that have been archived so far and leave any observations in the comments!  Read more

Next-gen has arrived! The highly anticipated release of the PlayStation 4 is here and there will be tons of coverage on the three launch day sports games beginning Friday morning. Directly captured HD gameplay videos and complete impressions will follow but the first day will primarily be about just playing the games and streaming them for all to examine and enjoy.

The times below are subject to change but the plan as of now:

    ♦11PT/2ET: Streaming Madden NFL 25
    ♦2PT/5ET: Streaming NBA 2K14
    ♦5PT/8ET: Streaming FIFA 14
    ♦8PT/11ET: Live Press Row Hangout

What do you most want to see in the streamed footage outside of gameplay? I’ll dig into some of the modes during those periods so feel free to drop suggestions in the comments.

The Hangout is expected to feature a large panel to discuss day one experiences with the PS4 and early thoughts on the three sports games. The video will be archived after airing and the audio will be offered soon after in alternate podcast form.

Follow the Pastapadre Twitch account for the streaming. Make sure also to be following on Twitter and like the Facebook page for timely links to the streams, new content, updates to plans, and miscellaneous observations throughout Friday and beyond!

Though EA Sports has avoided showing gameplay footage of next-gen Madden NFL 25 there are now opportunities to see the game in action thanks to the PS4’s built-in streaming feature. A few users began streaming gameplay yesterday – unfortunately those extended sessions were not archived to watch after they were over – while Game Informer held their own streaming session which has been saved.

The Madden segment begins at about 1:46 into the broadcast with the start of gameplay at 1:51. Should any streaming sessions go live today those will be embedded as well.  Read more

While multi-platform sports games will likely be fairly comparable across the board between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this upcoming generation, there are a few ways in which the two systems differentiate from one another that developers will look to take advantage of. One example of those for the PS4 is the Dualshock 4 controller that provides for the use of a unique central touchpad.

A new video that came out today includes discussion with developers on how they are utilizing the touchpad. With Madden NFL 25 the pad is being used to select players and then with a swipe send them in motion while pressing it as a button will call timeouts. NBA 2K14 has a feature called “rhythm check” which brings up icons that display player confidence levels and it can also be used to call quick plays. Read more

At a time when competition in sports gaming has nearly evaporated the return of the NBA Live series offers some hope that multiple games can exist for a single sport. NBA Live 14, debuting next week after a three year absence due to two late-cancelled titles, needed more than anything to reestablish some credibility in order to build towards future battles in the marketplace.

In the lead-up to release EA Sports has demonstrated a distinct lack of confidence in the product and made decisions that could lead the franchise’s cancellation before it ever even has an opportunity to truly compete.  Read more
