While more detailed write-ups will be done in the near future here are brief initial assessments of the three launch day sports games on the PS4 that will also be out for Xbox One this week. Rare is the occasion where several sports games are released on the same day so time with them has been split evenly thus far. It’ll take longer to craft a more complete review for each which they deserve to have. Read more
The demo for NBA Live 14 is now available to download on the PlayStation 4. The first sim basketball title in four years from EA Sports is officially out in stores today – even though some retailers began selling copies late last week – but the demo provides an opportunity to try the game out before deciding whether it’s done enough to earn a purchase. It will also be out on the Xbox One for that console’s release on Friday.
The extensive demo includes the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors. There are challenges in Ultimate Team with a roster stacked with young stars like Kyrie Irving, Ricky Rubio, Damian Lillard, and John Wall. Live Season is featured as well with five “BIG Moments” to try and replicate from early this season.
Look for live streams of the full game today through my Twitch account and a special Press Row Hangout late in the evening all about it!
[Update] The archived stream below ran for nearly six hours and included several online games, Rising Star mode, and Ultimate Team.
Now through 11 weeks of the NFL season and no team remains undefeated as the Broncos knocked off the Chiefs with a rematch coming in two weeks. Percy Harvin made his debut for the Seahawks and had an immediate impact.
Players expected to move upwards in this week’s Madden NFL 25 roster update include Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Bobby Rainey, Charles Clay, Kendall Wright, Micheal Floyd, Justin Houston, Red Bryant, and Joe Haden. Among those likely to slide are Colin Kaepernick, Geno Smith, Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Eric Fisher, and Troy Polamalu.
As always leave your thoughts in the comments on who should rise or fall in the upcoming Madden NFL 25 roster update!
Due to popular demand the Press Row Hangout will be offered in podcast form going forward soon after airing live every other Friday night! The first episode to get the podcast treatment is the big one from the end of last week where an expanded panel talked about first day experiences with the PlayStation 4 and the three sports games that arrived alongside it. If you find it more convenient to listen to as a podcast this is for you. For those who missed it and would like to watch the show as it was broadcast make sure to check it out here.
Listen to the Press Row (Hangout) Podcast through iTunes for iOS devices, Stitcher app for Android (has not gone live in there yet), or in the streaming player below. As always feel free to leave any comments on the show or suggestions for future recordings.
NBA 2K14 is arguably the most impressive next-gen game out at launch – and I would wholeheartedly recommend it based on time spent with it so far – but server related issues have made playing the game a difficult task for a significant number of consumers. Read more
