One of the most common questions out there relating to the Xbox One and PS4 is whether there are any differences in multi-platform games. As far as sports games go on a technical level there shouldn’t be – they are running at the same resolution and framerate – but that doesn’t mean they are exactly the same. Continue on for my observations after having played both Madden NFL 25 and NBA 2K14 on the two consoles. Read more
Now that all teams have completed their bye weeks five games remain in the final stretch of the season that looks to determine the sixth playoff spot for both conferences. Meanwhile the Chiefs may have to go up against the Broncos without Tamba Hali and Justin Houston in a game that will either keep them in the division and home field race or ensure they’ll be the five seed.
Players expected to go up following strong performances include Mike Glennon, Knowshon Moreno, Keenan Allen, Josh Gordon, Michael Floyd, Manny Ramirez, Robert Quinn, Calais Campbell, Gerald McCoy, and Von Miller. Among those likely to fall are Geno Smith, Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, Trent Richardson, B.J. Raji, Manti Te’o, Jermon Bushrod, Antoine Bethea, Sean Smith, and Josh Wilson.

Madden NFL 25 was a disappointment on the Xbox 360 and PS3 but the arrival of the Xbox One and PS4 brings promise of a fully featured product with improved gameplay and atmosphere. That would certainly represent a much better entry situation than how the previous generation was welcomed in and for the most part EA Sports has achieved that goal. It just may not be enough to get consumers excited since the base product it builds on was already lagging so far behind in the minds of many. Read more
Despite all the improvements that have been welcomed in with the arrival of the new hardware one hope that hasn’t been realized is that of significantly reduced loading times. With that in mind I tested Madden NFL 25 and NBA 2K14 and how long the process took in booting up the games and getting in and out of the action.
Interestingly despite the increased power capabilities on the PlayStation 4 it is the Xbox One that is proving to have an edge in loading the games faster. Where the PS4 comes out on top is with the initial install. So while day one the PS4 will save the most time it is Xbox One that will prevail in doing so over the life of a game. Read more

In the last few days there have been a large number of reports of NBA 2K14 on both Xbox One and PS4 crashing in the middle of playing games or while making progress in the various modes. No error message or anything of the sort is displayed when this happens. 2K14 just closes out back to the main menu or all the way to the dashboard and everything is lost.
This would appear most likely related to issues with the 2K servers, which have been troublesome from day one becoming one of the few black marks on what is otherwise a terrific product. At times the problems have even prevented consumers from accessing most of the modes contained within the game.
2K Sports has yet to comment on the issues or what they are doing to address them. There is a patch in the works but when it’ll be out and whether it has anything to do with the servers and connectivity troubles remains unclear.
