The most recent patch for NBA 2K14 that released on the Xbox One over a week ago is now available on the PS4. It should automatically download in the background when the console is started up or will upon launching the game as long as there is an online connection.
The update attempts to address some of the major issues that have afflicted the game since it’s release or since being introduced in an earlier patch. That includes the crashes to the dashboard when trying to play MyCareer and MyGM and getting stuck in the Playoffs in MyGM when the mode won’t advance.
Though it hasn’t solved everyone’s problems by most accounts it seems to have been an effective patch on the Xbox One side – where consumers were having a greater rate of trouble – so that is hopefully a good sign for those on PS4 too. Continue on to check out the patch details which is the same for both consoles. Read more

Rumors of a football game from the makers of Out of the Park Baseball and Franchise Hockey Manager have been essentially confirmed today after “leaking” information to Operation Sports and then promoting it on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Beyond the Sideline Football appears then to be the third PC sim management game from the developer.
Beyond the Sideline will feature real NFL players and teams, real colleges and actual prospects to draft by name, all the same rules and regulations of the league, a 2D engine to show action on the field (calling plays and watching them run), and all the management and scouting abilities that would be expected from a GM. [UPDATE]Â Targeting summer 2015 release.
The news comes shortly after initial details for Out of the Park Baseball 15 which includes for the first time a 3D engine that will eventually lead to on-field animations as the game expands further from its text-based origins.
Somewhat lost in the news yesterday that Electronic Arts has several years ahead under current deals with the NFL was the lack of specifics relating to terms. Many reports that followed have made the assumption nothing changed through the process despite evidence to the contrary. Just two years ago it was made clear that EA would not re-up without new consideration to the market value of the license and their standing as the only company prepared to release a product up the the league’s standards every single year going forward – Â a corner that the NFL backed itself into.
With that in mind it is notable that EA never uttered the word exclusive in response to the question posed in the investor conference call yesterday. In a follow-up exchange on Twitter, COO Peter Moore dismissed inquiries about the length of the current deal and whether it remains an exclusive one. Dodging questions only raises suspicion that something has changed. EA never had any trouble publicizing the earlier deal was for exclusivity and in fact they used it as a point of emphasis. Alterations to terms could be as simple as a lower price on a yearly basis while remaining exclusive but there would be nothing to hide about the framework of the deal remaining the same.
If there is another company or companies jumping in on the NFL license that news would not come until after the Super Bowl and it would probably be why EA was avoiding the subject all together and now won’t further clarify things. Still the chances of this being the case are slim. The NFL treasures exclusive deals and all signs point to them being extremely satisfied with the EA partnership as frustrating as that may be for consumers seeking competition or change.
In 2011 the exclusive NFL license with Electronic Arts was extended an additional year taking the deal through what would be Madden NFL 25. Given the lack of any comment from the parties speculation as to what was taking place behind the scenes has naturally occurred and rumors originating from unreliable sources have swirled. The two previous extensions were made two years in advance of expiration yet here only a matter of days remained until it would presumably end.
At some point, without making it known publicly, the NFL and Electronic Arts extended the license though it is not clear whether the exclusivity terms remain the same. On a quarterly investor call today COO Peter Moore responded to a question on the status of the license by saying there are “a couple years left” on the deals with the NFL and NFLPA and that they have a “number of games in development with the NFL”. That probably refers to the different versions of Madden on the various consoles and mobile.
Hopefully EA and the NFL will soon detail whether the terms of the deal have been altered. Given the league’s business strategy leans on exclusivity it’s most likely that remains in place. It’s certainly curious though that EA is not broaching the subject of continued exclusivity.
