Trailer for the PlayStation 4 Version of MLB 14: The Show
SCEA today released a trailer for MLB 14: The Show on PS4 that again puts the graphical enhancements in the spotlight. This follows on the heels of the opportunity to see pure gameplay through an extended live stream. It provides a look at the rebuilt stadiums, enhanced lighting engine, active and varied crowd models, and other visual enhancements in action that will soon be realized come May 6th.

The Golf Club is Out Today on Steam
Though a release date has yet to be announced for The Golf Club on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the game released today for PC through Steam Early Access. It’s available at a discount for the next seven days with the price now at $30 with a jump to $35 later. The Xbox One and PS4 versions are said to release “soon” so it may just be a matter of certification with it landing next week or the following week.
The Golf Club is the only sim golf game expected to release in 2014 as EA Sports PGA Tour (formerly Tiger Woods) is taking the year off. Though there is no golfer or course licensing the game features a very detailed course creator with the ability for consumers to share them freely and use online and very minimal loading times. Read more

iOOTP Baseball 2014 Now Available
Arguably the best sports management sim available for mobile devices, the latest edition of iOOTP Baseball has released for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
The app is $5 and this year the new features include updated rosters, a redesigned interface, a player editor, and retina support. For the first time an Android version is in the works and that is expected to release this summer. Read more

Bruce Lee Could Provide Boost to EA Sports UFC Sales Despite Mixed Reaction
Earlier this month Bruce Lee was announced as an addition to the roster of EA Sports UFC. He’ll be available to fight with in four different weight classes and can be obtained as a pre-order bonus or by “completing” Career mode.
The announcement was polarizing and the poll posted recently collected over 3600 votes on the subject. The results confirm what was initially suspected – the decision to add Lee to the game will prove a net win for EA even though the news wasn’t universally loved. Read more

Live Stream of 2014 FIFA World Cup
2014 FIFA World Cup is out today and it would have been a much bigger event had the game released on Xbox One and PS4. Alas EA Sports chose not to do so, which means I’m heading back to the Xbox 360 to evaluate it. Check out a live stream below (which will be archived after to watch) of the game which will include playing a variety of modes. (Update) The stream archives are now embedded below. Will have basic impressions of the game posted later this week!

Your Thoughts On What Has Been Shown of MLB 14: The Show on PS4
SCEA has long made it known that the PlayStation 4 version of MLB 14: The Show would be essentially the same feature wise as the PS3. Instead of changing around a formula that has largely worked for several years they’d primarily focus instead on enhancing the visuals. There is a good deal of excitement around the title with fans having planned in advance by purchasing the PS4 knowing it was the only place baseball would be present.
The exceptional visuals have been evident from the gameplay videos and trailers the company has released. However it has also left some, especially those with the PS3 version, wondering if the upgrade is worthwhile this year. Other anticipated technical advances like faster loading times don’t appear to be coming with the PS4 and no one would be wise to make the assumption that online play will be any better.

MLB 14: The Show PlayStation 4 Live Streamed Games
Earlier today IGN hosted a live stream of MLB 14: The Show on PS4 between with a game between Yasiel Puig and Hunter Pence, some Home Run Derby, and Road to the Show.
It’s far from the best way to represent the game – graphically it’ll look better than the video quality allows for, some questionable skills and knowledge are on display, and Quick Counts are utilized – but it’s an opportunity at least to see the game in action. To watch you’ll have to put up with the host and an all around awkward dynamic so it may be worth considering muting. Skip to the 35:00 minute mark for the start of the archived stream and choose a higher resolution.
Also included is a new video that shows off the revamped catch position indicator with a comparison from MLB 13 to 14. There’s more PS4 footage to check out there. Read more

MLB 14: The Show – Hits and Misses
The Pastapadre Sports Game of the Year in 2013 was MLB 13: The Show and for the follow-up SCEA focused on areas of strength while also attempting to address the issue of length of games. Unfortunately the Achilles’ heel of the series has reappeared harming the product arguably even more than in the past.
The PS4 version, which is now just three weeks away, will be essentially the same exact game with the exception of advanced visuals and some other technical improvements so as a whole impressions from the PS3 will largely carry through to there.
