SCEA today released the first post-release update to MLB 14: The Show on the PS3. Those waiting on the PS4 version should also be interested in the changes as they’ll likely be applied in a release day patch – which is now less than two weeks away – for that one as well.
A number of both offline and online related problems are addressed however the very poor general online performance and lack of reliability in Online Franchise mode are not cited among them. Continue on for complete details of the fixes and improvements delivered with the patch and leave any thoughts in the comments! Read more
2014 FIFA World Cup is a difficult game to properly assess. It offers up a compelling experience, something the every-four-years edition has become known for, but one that will feel notably old-gen to those who played FIFA 14 on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Read more
Those who pre-order EA Sports UFC will have the opportunity to get more than just Bruce Lee unlocked for use immediately. UFC legend Royce Gracie will be included in the pre-order bonus for the game as well – though which specific retailers will have him has not been made completely clear by EA. As is the case with Lee, Gracie can also be unlocked by completing Career mode for those who don’t get the game day one.
Gracie makes for a much easier sell to hardcore fans of the UFC as the reaction to Lee’s addition has been mixed with the appeal trending more to casual fight fans or those who didn’t have much interest in the product prior. Putting them together in the bonus is a smart move by EA as long as they make it retailer-wide and not specific to just Gamestop.
The latest video for MLB 14: The Show features a look at the Dynamic Cameras for batting and fielding introduced to the series this year. As with the other recent videos for the game, it includes PlayStation 4 footage to show things off, however note that the option to use Dynamic Cameras is available in the PS3 and Vita versions as well.
New to MLB 14, dynamic batting cameras will change the way you see the game from the batter’s box. The new camera is designed to add more perspective, more action and more excitement to your ABs.
The PC/Mac baseball management sim Out of the Park Baseball is available now to all at a price of $40. The game initially went out to those who had pre-ordered on Friday. It follows the release of iOOTP 2014 for iOS devices last Thursday.

Just over a week ago at PAX East a panel for the Press Row Podcast took place with the subject as “The Crisis in Sports Games”. Specifically that refers to things like the contraction in number of games each year, the lack of true arcade games, the rigid development cycles, and whether the necessary value is there is there for consumers.
Though I wasn’t in attendance for the panel these are important topics relating to the genre and there’s some great insight to take from all the discussion. Check out the 70 minute recorded presentation as a podcast through iTunes, for Android devices with the Stitcher app, or listen to it in the streaming player below!
