In what was a relatively uneventful E3, EA Sports pushed its slate of upcoming titles by focusing mostly on the fundamentals instead of hyperbole. Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, NHL 15, and PGA Tour all debuted new trailers, appeared at the Electronic Arts press conference, and had additional feature details released.
Madden went heavy on defense accompanied by some gimmicky visual indicators and new cameras. There was also info on aspects like QB accuracy finally mattering and long overdue presentation enhancements – but videos that followed (in particular the one of the halftime show) were somewhat deflating outside of the improved look and flow of the game. Â FIFA debuted its gameplay and presentation features, and in doing so caught up with the other fall titles. EA had been holding back due to the World Cup.
NHL didn’t have much new in the way of details but the impressive trailer and only gameplay video to make it out was worth it. EA Sports PGA Tour 16 meanwhile opened with an apparent attempt to present itself in a more arcade-style light, which may be its way of trying to appeal to the casual crowd now that Tiger Woods is gone as the face of the franchise.
What game of the bunch impressed you the most? Which was the most disappointing? Vote in the polls and leave any thoughts in the comments!

Earlier this week EA Sports announced the primary new features coming to FIFA 15 related to gameplay and presentation. The company has followed up on that with a series of short video clips, all put together in one stretch below, showing off or noting some of the specifics.
Whether intentional or not, EA Sports initial reveal of next year’s PGA Tour game has created the perception that it will be arcade in nature rather than the simulation the series has tended to strive for.
HB Studios, who has a pure sim golf game releasing on Xbox One and PS4 this summer (already out on PC through Steam), took the opportunity to jab at the company which previously had utilized the studio for secondary golf and other sports titles. The Golf Club’s trailer also features boats and some of the other creative elements that can be utilized in the course creator.
Despite the restrictions placed on recording footage a few videos have started emerging for the EA Sports games at E3. Here is the first to do so for NHL 15. As is the case with all videos and impressions out of the event, there is limited value to assessing them for much more than what is on the surface, and NHL 15’s offers a chance to get a feel for the flow of the game in action and the NBC broadcast presentation. Read more
Though EA Sports has restricted images and recordings of the upcoming games on display at E3 a couple limited Madden NFL 15 videos have now surfaced. One features the first look at extended gameplay footage mixed in with an interview, while the second shows a stage in the new series of extreme mini-games called The Gauntlet. (Update) Unfortunately the latter and other various Instagram video clips of interest have since been pulled down. An extended IGN demo of the game/interview has been added. Read more
Early retail postings suggested Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, and FIFA 15 would have special editions. That has turned out to be the “Ultimate Edition” of each which offers up significant Ultimate Team content for $10 more. Now some details on those have surfaced. Read more
