It’s been one of the worst weeks in the history of the NFL off-the-field, while on it a number of significant injuries were suffered. With Ray Rice having already been dealt with in Madden NFL 15 (though he still awkwardly pops up in new franchises) attention will turn to Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy. Both were inactive but their status remains unclear going forward. Unless Peterson were to be suspended by the league today or tomorrow, and any decision that would sit Hardy down for a longer period were to be announced by the Panthers, both will likely remain as normal in this week’s update.
Out for the season are Charles Tillman and Walter Thurmond. Those that will miss extended time include Robert Griffin III, Jamaal Charles, Marcedes Lewis, Mark Ingram, Ryan Mathews, Knowshon Moreno and Tavon Austin. DeSean Jackson, A.J. Green, Gerald McCoy and Eric Berry may be questionable heading into week three.
Players that appear likely to rise in the next roster update include Philip Rivers, Kirk Cousins, Demarco Murray, Darren Sproles, Brandon Marshall, Jordy Nelson, Sammy Watkins, Antonio Gates, Owen Daniels, Niles Paul, Larry Donnell, Chandler Jones, Aaron Donald, Mike Daniels, Desmond Trufant, Leon Hall, Kyle Fuller, Jimmy Smith, Tashaun Gipson and George Iloka.
Among those that will probably receive a drop this week are Jake Locker, Colin Kaepernick, Matthew Stafford, Matt Cassel, Chad Henne, Torrey Smith, Logan Mankins, Nate Freese, Justin Tuck, Patrick Robinson, Keenan Lewis, Cortez Allen, Patrick Peterson and Jimmie Ward.
The second week for The Daily Dish begins with a focus on retailer deals already available for Madden NFL 15, the response to the FIFA 15 demo proving exceedingly positive, and the “Trade Offer” feature being removed from Ultimate Team in FIFA 15.
One might think a demo for a new FIFA release would hold little relevance. The series turns in the biggest selling game in the world every year now. However in the poll posted last week to gauge response to the FIFA 15 demo over 4K votes rolled in and the results paint a picture of a franchise that could grow even beyond the remarkable standing it already holds by appealing to potential new consumers while still holding strongly on to returning ones. EA is doing this by improving across the board and without alienating holdover fans in the process.
34% of respondents actually feel the demo has made them more likely to buy the game than they were before, while 28% still plan to get the game but don’t feel the demo had any impact on them. The former there is huge – especially in a time when companies are beginning to move away from demos because they feel they often hurt more than help sales. Only 3% said they’re less likely to buy the game now.
The bottom line is a demo for a good game can always help, and instead a demo that presents a portion of a poor or mediocre game is where the concern should lie. Companies may still consider that the risk isn’t worth the reward. With yearly sports games consumers tend to have a good idea of whether a particular title is going to be good or not based on response to the previous year’s edition. A demo could shake that confidence or reaffirm skepticism and lately these companies have trended towards sharing less information and media – whether that’s in an effort to disguise problems or simply ride on a wave of recent success.

Today’s episode of The Daily Dish centers on Madden NFL 15’s first in-season roster update, NPD releasing sales results for August with Madden topping the charts despite a likely year-over-year decline, and news on MyTeam mode for NBA 2K15.
2K Sports today released news on improvements and additions coming for MyTeam mode in NBA 2K15. MyTeam is the company’s attempt at cloning the Ultimate Team model from EA Sports’ titles and was first introduced in 2K13. While the revenue-generating mode isn’t as natural a fit for NBA games it has proven to still be something that has a dedicated audience which is more than happy to shovel over their money in pursuit of new players.
In 2K15 MyTeam adopts even more concepts from Ultimate Team by adding an Auction House – that’s probably been the most requested feature since the mode was introduced. Operation Sports has the interview which also reveals new scenarios to play known as “Challenges”, that performance will dictate point payouts, a reduction in the cost of packs, and some new legends that will be found in the mode.
The roster update for Madden NFL 15 following week one of the season is available to download now on all systems. This update removes Ray Rice from the game following his release from the Ravens and indefinite suspension. It appears he won’t be pulled from Ultimate Team entirely but probably won’t be seen in any new packs going forward. There is seemingly an issue however as Rice appears in the free agent list when starting a new Connected Franchise with the latest roster. He’s there as a FA and CPU teams sign him.
