The always popular player face comparisons are back! It’s unfortunate that there are so few opportunities to do these type of things due to the lack of competition in sports gaming. However with both EA Sports and 2K Sports touting their respective face scanning procedures NBA 2K15 vs NBA Live 15 should make for a good one.

All captures were made through the same process to ensure even ground and there will be 30 faces total put on display. The majority are well known players along with a few of the top rookies mixed in. Continue on to check out and vote on the first 10! Two more sets will go up in the coming days and then the results revealed next week. Read more

  • Player Likeness Update Offered for Madden NFL 15; Currently Just Available on PS4

Along with all the content added to the PlayStation Store yesterday was a “Player Likeness Update” for Madden NFL 15. The free download claims to offer improved faces due to head-scanning that was completed on “more than 150 players”. This is only available for the PlayStation 4 right now but will presumably make it to the Xbox One also in the near future. It comes in at a fairly significant 500MB.

To download the free likeness update either queue it up through the SEN website or navigate through the PS Store on your PS4. That can be done by searching Madden NFL 15 and selecting Add-Ons from its page or going to Games->Add-Ons->New Add-Ons.

EA had given no indication that they planned to update player faces and they’ve done absolutely zero to promote it even now that it’s out. Since it is being delivered as isolated free DLC rather than a patch most people won’t even realize it exists. Also not knowing what players supposedly received the upgrades makes it’s difficult to judge the level of improvement made – maybe all those details will come once it’s out for both systems. However it is free so it doesn’t hurt to download it and see if anything can be identified.

[Update] The content has now been pulled from the PS Store. No comment from either EA or Sony on what is going on.

  • NBA Live 15 Yet To Receive a Roster Update

While the competition has turned a corner in terms of roster updates the NBA Live series continues to struggle with it. NBA Live 14 at one point in the season went for over a month without an update and now over a week into this season NBA Live 15 is still without one.

That means among the inaccuracies are Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook still in the starting lineup for the Thunder, Steve Nash starting for the Lakers, J.J. Barea missing from the Mavericks, and all sorts of other discrepancies that can be found throughout the rosters in the game against those currently active in the league.

EA Sports often touts their Synergy partnership which delivers ongoing data but ultimately that drives tendencies and doesn’t affect roster movement, injuries, or ratings. They have to put effort into manual updates and have not done a good job with it since relaunching the franchise despite an apparent dedication to post-release support in other areas.
