  • “New Era” for NHL Series Being Teased

A new addition to the NHL 15 website is pointing towards December 8th as a significant date for the series when a ‘new era’ will supposedly begin. Below the tagline is a mention to follow the NHL Twitter account for HUT news but that’s the extent of things. That could be a hint at the area of the game that will be affected but it’s hard to believe a “new era” would describe something related to a single mode. However this is EA and all they seem to care about now is Ultimate Team so it can’t be ruled out.

Of course any expectations should be tempered if not reduced to zero here. First it could end up being about an addition/change to Ultimate Team which would limit interest to the relative few who already own the game and the even fewer who play that mode. More importantly the company has lost their credibility in promotion of the series. The most recent embarrassment was hyping the release of a mediocre patch as “the greatest day in EA Sports NHL history”.

EA has not commented on further support for NHL 15 after fulfilling the first two promised patches which delivered a few features back to the game. Instead they’ve continued to push Ultimate Team including the recent addition of legends to the mode.

  • Looking Ahead to Black Friday Deals

With just over two weeks until Black Friday various retailer advertisements have already slipped out providing an opportunity to prepare for the rush of deals ahead.

Typically the yearly sports games released in summer or early fall are found for $25-35 with Black Friday deals. Those have included NCAA, Madden, NHL, and FIFA. In some cases NBA 2K has been bunched in there as well though the later release of the game has meant it hasn’t necessarily fallen as far as the others in some years.

Best Buy, Target, and Walmart ads are out now so expectations can be set. Amazon in recent years has tended to offer price matches as lightning deals rather than their run their own promotions and that is likely to be the case again.

Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, and NBA 2K15 are highlighted as $30 deals with Best Buy. It’s safe to assume NHL 15 will also be included in that but it’s not high profile enough to feature in an ad. Walmart and Target are promoting the same games for $35. Whether Amazon plans to match the $30 or $35 probably won’t be known until they put them live on the site. There will be other deals offered by the Microsoft Store but prices haven’t been detailed yet.

A comprehensive Black Friday post with all the deals available at the various retailers (not just sports games but also the bigger general gaming ones) will go up shortly before the rush begins – which now has crept well into Thanksgiving.

  • PES 2015 Gets Day One Patch

It’s long been the norm for sports games to receive a patch for release day. In many cases publishers don’t reveal the details of the updates, as they now view the release + patch as the final consumer product. Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 arrived today and Konami actually promoted in a press release what makes up the patch that accompanies it.

KONAMI has also prepared a day one download for PES 2015, which will ensure that 93 new kits will appear authentically in the game, while eight (8) more licensed teams have been added including Sparta Praha, FK Partisan, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Additionally, the Brazil league will have six of its teams (Santos, Internacional, Vasco da Gama, Vitoria, Criciuma, and Chapecoense) updated to include an additional 109 of the athlete’s real names. The day one download will reflect all transfers and loans, and new boots from Puma and Nike will be added. Continuing KONAMI’s dedication to ensure the stars resemble and act like their real life counterparts, the day one update will include over 80 player feature updates as well.

In addition another update scheduled for December will add 11 more real names to the Flamengo roster and include more new teams and more stadiums (which the game is very light on). Reviews for PES 2015 have been largely positive – it’s early on Metacritic but it’s currently right on par with FIFA 15 though online play still needs evaluation.

  • Madden NFL 15 Week 10 Upcoming Roster Update Discussion

    m15arodgsm

After a few weeks that featured some historically good performances Aaron Rodgers and Marshawn Lynch did their best to come close to their own in week 10. On the other end of things Ben Roethlisberger came back down to earth, Andy Dalton had a historically inept performance, and the Bears defense in particular were embarrassed for a second straight game.

Among the names likely to rise in the next Madden NFL 15 roster update are Rodgers, Lynch, Mark Sanchez, Justin Forsett, Odell Beckham Jr, Dez Bryant, Jordan Matthews, Joe Thomas, Max Unger, Ndamukong Suh, Kroy Biermann, Ezekial Ansah, Von Miller, Clay Matthews, Patrick Peterson, Jaiquawn Jarrett, and T.J. McDonald. Some of those that will probably fall include Dalton, Cam Newton, Jay Cutler, Mike Pouncey, Robert Alford, Charles Woodson, Kenny Vaccaro, and pretty much the entirety of the Bears defense.
