First announced back in September the unlicensed digital game Super Mega Baseball now has an official release date and pricing details. The game is set to arrive for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on December 16. It’ll go for $20 and is cross-buy meaning once it’s purchased for one it’ll be owned for both systems.

Despite the game not having any online play, which was initially disappointing news, the arrival of Share Play with PS4 could provide that H2H online experience depending on individual connection speeds. Share Play has worked tremendously well with the majority of games but a few – most notably MLB: The Show – have sadly proven to be unplayable through it.

There are very few creative takes on sports in gaming these days, so when one crosses the radar no matter how unorthodox the concept it becomes worth a look.

Rocket League is one of those. Officially announced today and coming to the PlayStation 4 next spring, Rocket League is a sequel to the 2008 game Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, and combines racing with soccer.

Features include a new Season mode, advanced physics system, broadcast-quality replays, wide range of customization options, online play with dedicated servers, and split-screen local multiplayer. Rocket League will debut with a multiplayer showing at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas this weekend.

  • Digital Holiday Version of Madden NFL 15 Offers Ultimate Team Extras

EA Sports today released a special “Holiday Edition” of Madden NFL 15 in the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store. Available for Xbox One, PS4, and PS3 until January 12 the game is being offered for $60 and includes $20 in Ultimate Team packs and a “Ghost of Madden’s Past Pack” which will include Dan Marino, Ray Lewis, and Emmitt Smith.

That would certainly be a strong way to start a new team in the mode. However as @ThatSportsGamer pointed out on the most recent Hangout, EA has added so much to Ultimate Team in Madden since release that anyone starting now will feel overwhelmed and be so far behind everyone else that they’ll never be able to catch up and compete on an even playing field. Well that is without spending a lot of money anyway.

The bigger problem though is that there just isn’t enough value here. Madden was available for $30 to anyone who wanted it for most of the last week. Offering it here for $60, and as digital meaning it can’t be resold later, makes it a really tough sell. It’s not just $30 more – when taking that into account it’s more like $45 more and it can’t even be given as a gift.

  • Madden NFL 15 Week 13 Upcoming Roster Update Discussion

The most interesting development to look forward to this week with the Madden NFL 15 roster update is whether EA Sports quietly reinserts Ray Rice into the game. Rice won his appeal against the league and has been reinstated – he’s currently a free agent that can sign with any team. The company stripped him out after he was cut by the Ravens and indefinitely suspended going to such a length that they even took his name and image out of Ultimate Team completely replacing it with a silhouette and “Baltimore Halfback”.

That has looked to be a shallow PR move ever since as EA never reacted to similar situations with Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy. Those two remained active on their respective team’s rosters. EA may not like it, after getting a bunch of press for removing him shortly after the season began, but now they’ll need to put Rice back in as the situation dictates it be done.

Names to look for on the rise following week 13 performances include Ryan Fitzpatrick, Philip Rivers, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Tre Mason, C.J. Anderson, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Stills, Kyle Long, Ezekiel Ansah, Sen’Derrick Marks, Fletcher Cox, Mike Daniels, Danny Lansanah, Bobby Wagner, Nigel Bradham, Darius Slay, and Richard Sherman.

Among those that should be expected to drop are Colin Kaepernick, Brian Hoyer, Andy Dalton, Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Steve Smith, Jimmy Graham, Khalif Barnes, Garrett Gilkey, Dan Connolly, Josh Mauga, David Amerson, Patrick Peterson, Kyle Fuller, and Ike Taylor.

2K Sports today announced a second post-release patch for NBA 2K15 has been submitted to Microsoft and Sony for certification and is expected to go live within the next two weeks after successfully completing the process.

The first patch released on October 24 and was rushed through due to pressing issues being faced at the time. The stability of the game has for the most part been acceptable ever since. Community feedback wasn’t taken into account because of the time frame so this upcoming patch is the big one for the game. What are you hoping to find addressed in the patch?

  • First News on MLB 15: The Show Coming This Weekend

    mlb14theshow0218

SCEA has announced that MLB 15: The Show news will come out of the PlayStation Experience this coming weekend. The new fan-centric event takes place on Saturday and Sunday in Las Vegas.

This first news will actually arrive behind the typical schedule for an upcoming edition of The Show. Whatever would have normally come in November has been held back for the big PlayStation event. Historically the early promotion for the series has primarily centered on the cover athlete. Adrian Gonzalez for MLB 12 (announced 11/9), cover athlete vote for MLB 13 (11/26), Miguel Cabrera for MLB 14 (11/4).

However more recently some more meaningful news has started to accompany it as well. MLB 13 had its Postseason mode revealed and for MLB 14 it was the save migration, Quick Counts, and pre-order bonus of in-game currency.

Hopefully SCEA gets the opportunity to use the platform for more than just a cover-related announcement. There’s even a chance that they could show a teaser trailer there. In the past those have usually come in mid-December or early January but last year they were held back until just a few weeks before the respective releases on the PS3 and then PS4.
