The introduction of Share Play on PlayStation 4 made it possible for games without any online component to be played through hosted connections. Assuming the individual’s speeds (primarily the upload) is fast enough Share Play offers the ability to not just play with or against a friend but also pass them the controller to play on their own. In some cases the result has even proven to be better than the actual online service for the game.

Super Mega Baseball does not offer online play and considering how good the game is that’s certainly disappointing. However Share Play has stepped in and provided a manner in which two people can play against each other or co-op together online. Read more

  • Completely Inaccurate Christmas Jerseys Added to NBA 2K15

An art update arrived today for NBA 2K15 that delivered new uniforms to the game. The “Pride” jerseys for the Celtics and Magic and a new alternate for the Cavs are included, but it’s the Christmas jerseys that will get most of the attention. Those have been added for the 10 teams that are set to play that day.

The main draw (or drawback in the opinion of many) to this year’s Christmas jerseys is that they feature the player’s first name instead of their last name. However 2K15’s representation includes the last name and even the box framing the name is absent. The NBA logo is also too small. On the front of the jerseys the team logos are too small – they should be the same size or larger than the number below – and the adidas logo is missing.

It’s unclear why 2K Sports would release the jerseys in this state and they have yet to comment on whether a fix for them will be made.

  • Super Mega Baseball is the Late Season Sports Gaming Hero

    SuperMegaBaseballTSsm

Super Mega Baseball enters the marketplace without the support of a major publisher and with it the normal marketing push and fanfare those games get. It lacks the licensing, rich feature sets, and revenue-driven modes that have become the norm. The sports genre’s alternatives, games that acted as bridges to the highly-detailed and increasingly complicated sim offerings, have gone practically extinct in recent years.

Despite all that Super Mega has every right to be considered a legitimate release and in terms of fun factor and value arguably could stand toe-to-toe with those massive sports games. No you aren’t going to find the same level of content but in some ways that’s not a necessity for the product. It’s $20, not $60, and has a completely different directive to achieve. Simply to be fun, accessible to everyone, provide a nostalgic feeling, and to be an enjoyable local multiplayer experience. It succeeds in all those areas.  Read more

With only two games left the playoff picture in both conferences has yet to come into focus. The NFC has five teams competing for four spots and the NFC South which will get someone in. The Packers loss to the Bills has opened the door to the winner of the Seahawks-Cardinals game on Sunday to take the #1 seed. In the AFC there are five teams that are going for the final two spots. The AFC North is going to get the division champ in and maybe even two others as the Wild Cards but the Chiefs, Chargers, and Bills have a shot to get in as well.

Players to look for on the rise this week in the Madden NFL 15 roster update include Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham Jr., Kevin Zeitler, Travis Frederick, Jordan Hill, Kyle Williams, Jason Jones, Charles Johnson, Chandler Jones, Frostee Rucker, Bobby Wagner, Vontae Davis, Stephon Gilmore, and Bacarri Rambo.

Among those that will likely drop are Johnny Manziel, Derek Carr, Jay Cutler, Philip Rivers, Jordy Nelson, Ja’Waun James, Davin Joseph, Bashaud Breeland, Kyle Fuller, Bradley Fletcher, and Antoine Bethea.

    yasielpuigmlb15coversm

The first release of info related to MLB 15: The Show included a handful of features and improvements to expect from the game that will release on March 31. There wasn’t anything monumental announced but instead a variety of things that will appeal to different types of players. Those include the first opportunity to use save migration from MLB 14, overhauled Diamond Dynasty, a radio show, the introduction of licensed equipment, the addition of legends, enhanced graphics, more defined player personality, and improved loading times.

Vote in the poll (select up to three options) and leave any thoughts in the comments. What are you most looking forward to out of those upcoming features and improvements?

The hope going into the release of Super Mega Baseball, due out tomorrow on PS4 and PS3, was that it could at least partially fill the huge void in sports gaming left by the practical extinction of the non-traditional licensed sim or “arcade” games of old.

Thankfully Super Mega has come through in that regard. The game is very fun and really well designed. It may have the look of an “arcade” game but it’s grounded enough in realism that it should appeal to a wide audience. I’ll be posting extended thoughts on the game tomorrow to coincide with the release but in the meantime here’s a walkthrough video I put together with a full Season mode game and my commentary while playing going over features and impressions.
