Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is out now to download as a timed trial with EA Access on Xbox One. Subscribers to the service will get 10 hours of playtime after which it will expire. The timer is ticking down whenever the game is loaded regardless of whether it is being played, menus are being navigated through, or if there is any activity taking place at all. So make sure to exit out and close the application from the Xbox One home screen when not in use.
The 10 hours are there to play whether its all used by Tuesday or not. Given that there is no demo for the game this acts as the only way to try it out before buying. Game saves are stored on the hard drive so records online and progress in any of the modes will carry over if a full copy is bought. The complete game is available during the trial period.
EA Access was announced last July and is exclusive to the Xbox One. This is the case because Sony has declined to offer the service through PlayStation 4 saying it doesn’t offer enough value, despite being arguably the best value in all of gaming. EA Access includes the “Vault” which offers unlimited play with nearly every game from the company’s catalog this generation, 10% off all digital purchases, and the ability to play games up to five days before they release with a limited timed trial. EA Access is $30 for a full year or $5 month-to-month.
How much does the reliance on licensing, when it comes to real courses and golfers, influence consumer interest in EA Sports’ PGA Tour series? Based on the poll posted last week the lack of both – there are only 12 golfers and 8 courses on disc – could severely harm the potential of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour to do well in the marketplace. Read more

The July 6th roster update for MLB 15: The Show contained only 32 updates making it the “calm before the storm”. During a pre-E3 stream put on by the development team at Sony San Diego, mention was made that a “wholesale update similar to what we do in between annual releases” will be completed around the All-Star break. That was already highly anticipated but now even more so with this latest roster update delivering so little. Read more
One of the best things to come out of EA Sports UFC have been the glitch videos commentated on by the fake Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg. EA Sports UFC was a fairly polished game but the rare occasions where it did glitch created some hilarious moments and they’re capitalized on brilliantly in the videos. The first was posted last July, that was also followed up with another soon after, and after a long time away a third went out only a couple months ago. Thankfully the work has not stopped and a fourth is here! Read more
Thanks to the revamped Diamond Dynasty, the roster updates for MLB 15: The Show have been greatly improved upon compared to past years, incorporating consistent ratings changes to go along with player movement. With the All-Star break near, this week’s update is undoubtedly the weakest of the entire season, but with a huge reevaluation of the entire league promised either next week or the following week, that’s not totally unexpected.
The biggest movers up this week include Josh Collmenter (+5 to 80), Jarred Cosart (+5 to 79), Justin Masterson (+5 to 78), and Logan Forsythe (+6 to 77). No player previously rated above 75 received a ratings upgrade. Chris Davis takes the biggest hit (-4 to 80) but only due to a position change and others falling include Yunel Escobar (-3 to 77), Hector Rondon (-2 to 77), and Daniel Murphy (-4 to 76). Read more
