EA Sports today officially announced EA Sports UFC 2 with an planned release for spring 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The first features will be revealed on Friday, however the menus seen in the trailer show that the game will have its own Ultimate Team mode.
EA SPORTS UFC 2 innovates with stunning character likeness and animation, adds an all new Knockout Physics System and authentic gameplay features, and invites all fighters to step back into the Octagon to experience the thrill of finishing the fight. From the walkout to the knockout, EA SPORTS UFC 2 delivers a deep, authentic, and exciting experience.
The first EA UFC released in June 2014 with a disoriented identity that satisfied practically no one. The company had attempted to go after a casual crowd, both promotionally and in their design decisions, that never was going to have interest in the game rather than tailoring it towards the actual fans of the sport. Post-release however the game was improved significantly through multiple patches and free additions to the roster of fighters. After struggling to gain traction in sales UFC was added to the EA Access “Vault” after only six months.
The free content update for Rocket League adding in mutators went out today on PS4 and PC. The update also includes other new content, gameplay improvements, and bug fixes. A special playlist has been added that features the five new ways to experience the game. Read more
Today Microsoft revealed the initial list of games receiving backwards compatibility on Xbox One when the functionality launches for the system on Thursday. As expected the sports gaming genre has little representation with only one game in the mix.
NBA Jam: On Fire Edition will be available with the first batch of games. Originally released November 2011, OFE was a $15 downloadable-only title. It was fairly well received, with 85/81 on Metacritic, but also followed only a year after the incredibly disappointing original reboot of the series which was a full-priced retail release that EA Sports failed to support. That didn’t get much better with the sequel which went months before a roster update released, and months more before a second and final one went out. Sadly OFE is still being sold for $15 so there isn’t even a discount four years later for those seeking an arcade basketball fix.
It was never realistic to expect any big sports games from 360 to be made backwards compatible – especially NCAA Football 14 which was by far the most requested, college basketball, or All-Pro Football 2K8. There are conflicts related to licensing, legal agreements that have to be held up, and even internal concerns about how games from the past being playable on the new systems could harm sales of current products on the market.

The roster update following week eight of the season is available to download now in Madden NFL 16. The trade deadline passed with only one deal being made as Vernon Davis moves to the Broncos in the update. Another week, another player moves up to 99 Overall, as Tyron Smith makes it seven currently at the top. Check out everyone who had their Overall Rating change with the new roster in the spreadsheet here.
There’s a lot of weird stuff in there that doesn’t make much sense given performances in week eight. That even includes players who have been injured getting their ratings changed. Maybe there were some wider mid-season reevaluations that took place.
Names on the rise include Tyron Smith (+1 to 99), Aaron Donald (+1 to 98), Joe Thomas (+1 to 98), Julio Jones (+1 to 97), Andrew Whitworth (+1 to 97), Carson Palmer (+3 to 94), Cameron Jordan (+2 to 94), Tyler Eifert (+3 to 93), Kawaan Short (+3 to 92), Tyrann Mathieu (+2 to 92), Josh Norman (+2 to 91), Andy Dalton (+2 to 90), Doug Martin (+3 to 88), Eric Berry (+3 to 89), Walter Thurmond (+4 to 83), Stefan Diggs (+5 to 82), and Brian Hoyer (+4 to 79).
Among the players headed downward are Richard Sherman (-1 to 95), Earl Thomas (-1 to 95), Eric Weddle (-2 to 94), Vontae Davis (-3 to 91), Adrian Peterson (-2 to 90), Philip Rivers (-1 to 90), Jason Witten (-4 to 88), Martellus Bennett (-3 to 88), DeMarco Murray (-2 to 88), Joe Haden (-2 to 87), Eddie Lacy (-3 to 86), Roddy White (-3 to 81), and Colin Kaepernick (-3 to 77).
Another post-release patch is on the way for FIFA 16 on PS4 and Xbox One. It follows the first which addressed some issues that had been identified along with changes made based on community feedback. The new patch is already out on PC and is expected in the very near future for the consoles. It includes some updated likenesses, a few new kits, and a number of fixes – several of which are related to Ultimate Team. Read more
It’s hard to believe but there’s only about a month now until promotion of the upcoming MLB: The Show title typically begins. Last year the cover athlete announcement came on December 5th and that was followed three days later by the reveal of the central features for the game.
MLB 15: The Show was an excellent game – easily the most complete in the series’ history. There are many avenues to be looked at for improvement however with MLB 16: The Show. Commentary is one that has been on the radar for many years now, while Road to the Show and Franchise modes are in desperate need of a refresh or reimagination.
Recently we went through ways to improve the postseason experience for MLB 16. Now let us know what improvements and additions you’re hoping for from the upcoming game! They can relate to anything from gameplay to presentation, online, RTTS, Franchise, Diamond Dynasty, or even completely new modes and features. We’ll be going over the most common requests and those of our own in an upcoming article and Press Row Podcast episode!
