MLB The Show 16 had the first reveal of feature details and teaser trailer early last month. That included “Showtime” (a bullet-time type feature for Road to the Show and Player Lock), retractable roofs, six classic stadiums, new cards for Diamond Dynasty, and mention of two new modes that were being held back to announce at a later date.

Today SCEA went further into detail on Road to the Show as well as how ShowTime factors into the mode. In addition to not having to go back to the menu after every single game, there are new gameplay perks and an improved Topps Prospect Showcase.

  • Dangerous Golf could be this year’s Rocket League

For a period of a few years it appeared the creative arcade-style sports game had gone completely extinct. While that’s still the case with licensed offerings, what has started to emerge in their place are unique unlicensed takes on sports. Super Mega Baseball was the first out the door, and then Rocket League blew the roof off expectations and provided a blueprint of how to be incredibly successful and reach an audience that goes beyond just sports fans.

The latest game that looks like it might fit in a similar mold was announced today. Developed by brand new studio Three Fields Entertainment, formed in 2014 and headed by the founders of Criterion Games which produced the Burnout series, it’s no surprise Dangerous Golf is being compared to what that meant franchise meant to the racing genre. In fact the concept sounds an awful lot like Burnout’s Crash Mode.

In Dangerous Golf, players aren’t striving for Par or aiming for Birdie — they’re playing for dollar damage as their high score. As they progress throughout the game, players will not only be awarded points for trick shots and ricochet techniques, but they’ll also get rewarded for destroying stuff by turning their golf ball into a bomb and setting off their SmashBreaker. Destructive powers increase as the ball heats up, ensuring that the most elaborate shots are not only the most rewarded, but the most impressive to watch.

Locations will include a hotel kitchen, palace ballroom, rural gas station, and medieval castle. The game will feature turn-based play for both online and offline multiplayer. Expected out in May, Dangerous Golf will release digitially on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

With extensive footage of EA Sports UFC 2 having leaked out via live stream along with it was the roster of the welterweight division and their respective ratings. There are 38 fighters available in the division. As was the case with the first UFC game the ratings are inflated for the middle and bottom of the roster keeping them in range of the elite fighters. While 85 was the lowest rating in EA UFC, 83 is the lowest from the welterweights in UFC 2. Read more

2K Sports today released the fourth post-release patch for NBA 2K16, a minor one that prepares the game for the upcoming competition that will be utilizing the 2K Pro-Am mode. Earlier patches have focused on getting the Pro-Am up and running weeks after the game launched, made extensive changes to virtually every mode and gameplay based on community feedback, and delivered fixes to various issues.

    Additionally the latest patch includes:

♦Fixed an issue where users were able to equip mascot costumes despite not having the appropriate rep level in MyPARK.

♦Addressed a game disconnect that would sometimes occur during scrimmage games in MyCOURT when there are spectators.

♦Fixed an issue that was causing unwanted ankle breaker reactions on defenders who were standing in good defensive position.

♦Resolved a rare case where a Pro-Am Arena game would stall out on the loading screen.

♦(PS4) Adjusted the ‘How Much Ya Got?’ requirements such that a maximum salary offer will unlock the Trophy (regardless of how many years the contract offer is for).

♦Added ‘Player of the Week’ and ‘Player of the Month’ panels to the MyPARK leaderboards.

    rbibaseball16

The reboot of RBI Baseball will be returning for its third season. MLBAM announced today that RBI Baseball 16 will release this spring on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and mobile. It remains the only licensed MLB game on XB1, but has recently been joined by the terrific unlicensed Super Mega Baseball to give fans at least a choice of games on the console.

It has been a rough return for the series, with the game having been met coldly due to lack of features, poor post-release support, high price, and lackluster gameplay. The version made for consoles has felt very much like a port of a mobile game. RBI 14 and RBI 15 both landed in the mid-40s on Metacritic.

New features for RBI Baseball 16 include the ability to dive and make wall catches in the field, improved defensive AI, an improved batting system, plus the usual enhanced lighting and graphics. Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox is the frontman for this year’s game.

The closed beta for EA Sports UFC 2 won’t kick off for most people until late next week but footage has already made it out thanks to a live stream held by UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The game was streamed for nearly three hours and though it isn’t high quality, parts of the screen are obscured by various windows and text, and the audio is primarily of Jackson and his buddies, it’s an extensive look at gameplay particularly at this still somewhat early stage.

The game footage has been compiled/edited down and saved for permanent viewing. Continue on to check out the videos and leave any observations in the comments!  Read more
