The first EA Sports UFC faced some criticism for releasing with a roster that was missing a fair number of relevant fighters. Several were added via post-release support however, and now the sequel will be launching out of the gate with a considerably deeper roster. EA Sports UFC 2 includes more than 250 fighters and here is the full lineup by weight division.  Read more

In a developer stream today presentation took center stage for MLB The Show 16. New features include multiple broadcast display packages that vary depending on the stature of the game, a hybrid presentation option that falls between Fast-Play and Broadcast, home run distances being displayed, more personalization for the teams and players, and improvements to the radio show within Franchise and Road to the Show.

The most criticized part of The Show over recent years has been the commentary. Not that it’s bad but rather that it’s grown terribly stale – and that perception probably isn’t going to change without bringing in a whole new commentary crew. Still improvements have been made in MLB 16 with the addition of some new lines, greater focus on statistics, recall of earlier events, and new stories to tell about the players and teams.  Read more

EA Sports UFC 2 Mike Tyson

Just two weeks from today EA Sports UFC 2 will have its 10 hour trial go out on EA Access yet there’s still a lot about the game that hasn’t been fully detailed by the publisher. Besides Ultimate Team and Career Mode there hasn’t been much promotion for the game lately.

Now though a few of the other featured modes have been touched in a new trailer that went out today. KO Mode is the most notable one, as it has the potential to attract a different type of fight fan and those with more casual interest in the sport.

    Knockout Mode
Throw away the grappling and unleash all the punches, kicks, knees and elbows in this fast-paced mode. The rules are simple…the fight doesn’t stop until someone gets starched!

    Custom Event Creator
Become an event organizer and create the dream fight card you’ve always wanted. Choose from iconic venues, authentic referees, and custom fight settings. Once that’s all set, take control and bring the hype.

    Live Events
Predict. Play. Win. Make your pick in the outcome of upcoming UFC events, then step into the EA SPORTS UFC 2 Octagon to make it happen. Win in-game rewards and propel yourself up the leaderboard of our immersive fantasy prediction game.

  • MLB The Show 16 Q&A Stream

The latest archived developer stream for MLB The Show 16 was centered on answering questions about the game. In addition to gameplay there are some looks around a few of the stadiums, new equipment, batting stances, and pitching motions.

The developers are finishing up the game on Friday so it’s crunch time. Some work mentioned being done at this late stage relate to lighting and stadium details, all Marlins players having their facial hair removed with manager Don Mattingly putting that rule in place, and possibly adding in rewards for players who completed collections in MLB 15’s Diamond Dynasty. Other notes include Inside Edge ratings fluctuations only being in Diamond Dynasty and that the Legends will remain in Franchise as free agents.  Read more

  • NBA Live bounces back in an unexpected form

    NBA Live Mobile

EA Sports rolled out a new game, NBA Live Mobile, to Canadian iOS and Android stores last week. The plan is for the game to expand to the US and other regions in the near future. It’s somehow the best thing NBA Live since 2009.

Using the same free-to-play model incorporating the Ultimate Team concept as other mobile sports games, NBA Live Mobile is all about building up a roster and acquiring desirable players through card packs, at auction, or with rewards. Coins and bonuses are earned through completing “Live Events”, with new ones added every day, and going through Seasons against the AI. There is also a turn-based head-to-head but that hasn’t come together in its current form.

The simplicity is key, not just in having to juggle a smaller roster than FIFA and Madden, but also with the gameplay. The controls work surprisingly well, with offense primarily being about driving in for dunks and layups or shooting threes, while defense mostly comes down to trying to block shots and grab rebounds. There’s more to it but most possessions end those ways.

The biggest issue with Live Mobile is that it’s simply too easy. The AI has yet to put up a challenge, and all the players even those rated poorly are effective, making it seem somewhat unnecessary to work towards obtaining the best players.

Over time maybe the AI teams will close the gap, given that progression will slow once reaching higher levels, and with more being invested in collections instead of immediate upgrades. Either way NBA Live Mobile is fun and addictive, which surprises me as much as it would anyone else. Check out the complete review over at Sporting News.

  • Madden NFL 16 patch tackles some exploits

    madden16sbcelebration

It’s unusual for a patch to go out following the end of a season, but a fifth one for Madden NFL 16 – which won the 2015 award for Best Post-Release Support – went out earlier today.

Unlike the past updates, which addressed issues, game balancing, and added features, this one is primarily focused on eliminating exploits. It’s probably not a coincidence it comes a few weeks after the Madden Challenge concluded where many questionable tactics were on display.

The full list of areas affected have not yet been provided but the patch does deal with eliminating some nano-blitzes and fixing untimed downs and the glitch being used to block field goals. Additional details will be added here when they become available.

The free UEFA Euro 2016 content coming to Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 will only feature 15 licensed nations. Not only does that fall far short of the 53 involved in the competition, but it’s not even all 24 that advanced to the final tournament which begins on June 10.  Read more
