Two new card packs began being offered in the MLB The Show 16 store yesterday. The “Prime Time Performers” and “Swing For The Fences” packs go for 5,000 coins and contain 3 player cards with a higher chance them being Gold or Diamond.
The math doesn’t really add up to make one of these packs a good value purchase however. Take 5,000 Coins and either buy one of these new packs getting 3 player cards that have 2X chance of being a Gold or Diamond OR you open 5 regular packs and get 30 players that have a normal chance of being a Gold or Diamond. The latter would seem the far better option.
The appeal of these packs then is instead on the new players that can be found in them. The packs contain 10 cards that will be making their debut in the Diamond Dynasty player pool. These players can now then also be found on the Marketplace, though most will be extremely expensive given their scarcity. The “Prime” Cabrera stands as one of the most expensive cards in the game to obtain at 335,000 Coins which is the equivalent of $335!
Rookie: Prince Fielder, Jose Bautista, Giancarlo Stanton, Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber
Prime: Adrian Gonzalez, Andre Ethier, Joaquin Benoit, Miguel Cabrera
Legend: Luis Tiant
EA Sports UFC 2 just released last month but internally the publisher is already looking ahead to the follow-up likely scheduled for 2018. The company is attempting to gauge interest in potential new features to be introduced in EA Sports UFC 3 through a survey sent out to random owners of the game. A screenshot sent in by a reader has revealed what they have in mind.
Features represented in similar past surveys have often come to fruition, so these are unlikely just to be random ideas floated for reaction and instead may already be in an early stage of active development with some to get cut at a later date. There are spins on popular features found in other EA Sports games and the first sign of virtual reality interest. Read more
Everyone knows that certain attributes shine through more than others in sports video games. There’s been a consistency to what many of those qualities are for as long as can be remembered from sport to sport and individual franchise to franchise. Because of that, some players prove more valuable than others, often exceeding their real-world ability while some others fail to have their abilities translate completely.
With all that in mind, it’s time for the annual Madden Mock Draft, where teams make selections based on who would help them the most now for Madden NFL 17 and the years that follow.
Check out the entire first round mock over at Sporting News. There are some surprises compared to expectations for the actual NFL Draft next week, including the slide of a few big name players, who gets taken first out of certain positional groups, and some late first round fliers on talent and potential over more refined skills.
With the hockey mode that went out late last year developer Psyonix proved they could put a whole different spin on Rocket League with a new base sport that delivers a completely unique experience. The next highly anticipated new mode will be here in under a week.
Rocket League Hoops will go out on April 26 and it is completely free content. The basketball mode played in Dunk House Arena looks to make the air-game more important than ever, after hockey shifted focus onto playing the boards over trying to own the air.
Also coming on the very same day is some paid downloadable content. As with all put out to date it’s completely optional and only cosmetic in nature. Psynoix partnered with the NBA to offer up all 30 NBA team logos for vehicle flags. The DLC pack will be sold for $2.
Team-building modes in sports games are intended to be played for months on end, if not year-round, making them initially tough to assess when in the early days following their respective releases. With over three weeks now having been spent playing Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 16 there’s a lot more that has been evaluated following the coverage in the review roundtable episode. Bryan Wiedey and T.J. Lauerman discuss everything there is to do with the popular mode in an all-new Press Row Podcast presented by Hit The Pass.
Topics covered include new card types, Captains, Missions, Collections, Battle Royale, Conquest, Inside Edge daily ratings adjustments, and server-related problems. The duo also goes over their current lineups, the decisions that have been made in constructing their rosters, and sleeper picks to consider using on your own teams out there.
Check out the podcast through iTunes for iOS, on Android with the Stitcher app, or with Pocket Casts on iOS, Android, and Windows. The show can also now be found on the just launched Google Play Music for podcasts. Subscribe and review to help support the show! You can also listen with the streaming player below.
In a shocking turn of events, UFC’s featherweight champion Conor McGregor announced his retirement earlier today, and at least one reporter has heard it’s not an elaborate troll-job from the outspoken brash personality that would make it a natural first assumption. McGregor is just 27 and has risen to stardom in the last two years earning a spot on the cover of EA Sports UFC 2 which released last month. He was scheduled for a rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in July.
I have decided to retire young.
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya's later.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 19, 2016
Multiple sources are adamant at this time that McGregor's tweet isn't a joke, troll job or hoax of any kind. Reason(s) behind it is unclear.

It’s become somewhat of a joke, that the EA Sports UFC franchise has taken over the mantle as the most powerful curse in sports game covers, but this news will only cement that growing perception. For the sequel it was Ronda Rousey getting demolished by Holly Holm then McGregor submitting to Diaz. The first EA UFC had Jon Jones battling substance abuse, pleading guilty to hit-and-run, getting stripped of the light heavyweight title, suspended from the promotion, and removed as the face of the UFC mobile game. Alexander Gustafsson has lost both of his fights since having appeared on that original EA UFC cover.
The reasoning for McGregor’s decision at this point and whether it’ll actually stick would be all speculative, from concerns over long-term health particularly after witnessing the death of Portuguese fighter Joao Carvalho earlier this month, to an argument over how much he should be paid, or even the potential of a move to WWE.
[Update] UFC president Dana White has stated that he has not been informed by McGregor of the intention to retire, but did announce that he has been pulled from the UFC 200 card.
The third EA Sports game to have originally released in 2015 has reached the Vault in EA Access. Madden NFL 16 was added in February and NHL 16 in March, and now FIFA 16 joins it and all other games from the publisher to have come out earlier this generation.
EA Access is currently exclusive to Xbox One with Sony declining to offer the service on PS4. For $30 a year or $5 month-to-month, members get unlimited access to the back library of EA games on the console which in addition to FIFA, Madden, and NHL includes all 2014’s sports titles plus other games like Battlefield Hardline, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Titanfall. There’s also the 10 hour trials with every EA game that begin five days before release and 10% savings on all digital purchases whether it be the actual games or microtransactions within them.
FIFAÂ 16 enters the Vault just a few weeks earlier than FIFA 15 did last year. Madden NFL 16 was a month earlier while NHL 16 was basically right in line with the previous year. NBA Live 16 and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour remain and are likely to be added within the next few months.
The first in-season roster update for MLB The Show 16 was primarily utilized to add in rookies who had made their Major League debut. In the second update, which went out today, more rookies have been introduced into the game.
After being left out last week, Dae-Ho Lee has made his way into the game, however for some reason placed on the Mariners’ AA team rather than the MLB squad. The highest rated new rookie is Brett Nicholas of the Rangers, while Mallex Smith and Nomar Mazara are the only two to get A Potential grades. Though sweeping ratings changes have not been made a few players have been affected this week. Read more
