With fewer sports games than ever before there’s an opening for independent developers to have success with creative unlicensed takes on different sports. Dangerous Golf is the latest to enter that space and it comes from the creators of the Burnout series, and borrows the concept behind its popular Crash Mode.
Replacing cars with golf balls and hitting into destructive environments sounds like a recipe for success but unfortunately the fun wears off quickly. Whether it’s frustrating technical issues from a problematic camera to slow loading times between every restart, or just the tiresome repetitiveness which offers surprisingly little satisfaction, Dangerous Golf is a disappointment especially at a $20 price. While basketball fans may be excited that NBA 2K17 will be out earlier than ever before with its move up to mid-September, it only further compresses the window where the majority of the sports games for the year are released. Within a four week span, six major sports games will go out, and there may be even others still yet to be announced.
In this episode of the Press Row Podcast presented by Hit the Pass, the discussion centers on what has led to this situation coming about, how it affects publishers and consumers, whether it’s unhealthy for the sports gaming genre going forward, and how it could possibly be fixed.

While there are unfortunately no new Flashback cards being introduced this week, the latest limited-time Diamond Dynasty card pack in MLB The Show 16 includes six players – three of which come from a pool comprised of the best performers from the month of May. At 2,500 Stubs each, are these Players of the Month packs a good investment vs standard packs of spending in the Marketplace? Here’s a look at what I got with the four that were purchased.
There’s lots of ratings movement in today’s roster update for MLB The Show 16. Bryce Harper is the highest rated player to be adjusted, and after reaching peak 99 Overall just one month ago he’s now down to 97. He hit just .200 in the month of May and his Contact ratings in the game have suffered for it. Meanwhile Dodgers phenom pitcher Julio Urias has been added to the game and is rated 75 with A Potential.
Other players taking ratings hits this week include David Price (-1 to 93), Felix Hernandez (-2 to 91), Carlos Correa (-2 to 89), Troy Tulowitzki (-3 to 86), Jose Abreu (-4 to 82), Brian Dozier (-3 to 81), Phil Hughes (-6 to 76), and Jimmy Rollins (-5 to 76).
Among those on the rise after strong stretches are Stephen Strasburg (+1 to 93), Johnny Cueto (+2 to 91), Xander Bogaerts (+3 to 90), David Ortiz (+2 to 89), Kris Bryant (+3 to 88), Mookie Betts (+2 to 88), Eric Hosmer (+2 to 88), Francisco Lindor (+2 to 87), Gregory Polanco (+4 to 85), Steven Matz (+4 to 85), Jackie Bradley Jr. (+3 to 84), Leonys Martin (+3 to 82), Wilson Ramos (+6 to 78), and Jake Lamb (+5 to 77).
