NBA 2K17 Team USA Rio Olympics

It’s somewhat hard to believe but with NBA 2K17 releasing earlier than all but one league-licensed NBA game ever before there aren’t even seven full weeks to go now until it’s out. The announcement of this year’s Olympic Men’s National Team made on Wednesday however didn’t even bring with it the first screenshot from 2K17. Later that day though the Team USA website included the first look at the game which had all sorts of graphical errors most notable among them players embarrassingly sinking into the floor.

Today 2K Sports delivered a fixed-up official version of the screenshot. Click it above to see full size. The screenshot is an attempt to recreate the team picture that was taken recently just with all players in uniform and not using various means to hide logos.

There’s also now the first look at the 1992 Dream Team which is part of the pre-order bonus. All versions of 2K17 can be pre-ordered for 20% off by those with Amazon Prime.

Madden NFL 17 Von Miller Ratings

Von Miller and Luke Kuechly have retained their 99 Overalls from last season and join Rob Gronkowski and J.J. Watt as the only ones with the rating in Madden NFL 17. At OLB it’s Dont’a Hightower who makes a leap to claim a top spot, passing by three players at the position to do so – however the remaining nine players all return to the top of the rankings.

  • 3on3 Freestyle now slated for end of summer release

    3on3freestyle0727b

It has been an interesting journey for publisher JoyCity in taking the street basketball Freestyle series from PC to console. 3on3 Freestyle, coming only to the PlayStation 4, was supposed to release in May but it took until the very last day of that month for the company to announce a delay. The plan then became about a “beta” for the summer. The first update since then has now been made on what is happening with the unlicensed game.

3on3 Freestyle will release “at the end of the summer” which would mean likely September and before the 22nd of the month. That, of course, puts it right in the middle of the period when almost every sports game for the year hits the market. The difference would be in going free-to-play, as that could give it an opportunity to reach people who wouldn’t have even given it a second thought otherwise. While it was originally going to be F2P the latest info from JoyCity does not explicitly state that it still will be releasing with that model in place.

There will be three modes of play in the game. 3v3 online, 1v1 online, and 1v1 against the CPU. “Every character is different and has its own abilities and skills, being able to play at a specific position. It’s up to you to choose how you play, using crisp passes, mesmerizing dribbling or forcing your way through to win the game. Enjoy team-skills based on the combination of your players to score perfect alley-oops. Pick wisely the different types of players and pave your way to success! Your characters can also win experience points in order to boost their abilities and help you define the playing profile which suits you the most.”

[Update] JoyCity has confirmed directly to me that the game remains free-to-play.

    Madden NFL 17 Josh Norman

Four of the five corners at the top of the rankings for Madden NFL 17 return to their spots from where they finished up last season. Josh Norman is the highest rated cornerback in the game, a position he rose to over the course of Madden NFL 16 where he initially began tied for 26th and then earned 10 Overall Rating points over the course of the year while other premier CBs slid downwards. One of those, Darrelle Revis, returns to the top five after he fell out of it last season and he passed five players who were tied or ahead of him to get that ranking.

Any concerns about availability or effectiveness following back surgery won’t affect J.J. Watt to start Madden NFL 17 as he’s now the second player along with Rob Gronkowski to get a 99 Overall Rating. The big move made at defensive end is with Olivier Vernon who has jumped several players in order to stake a claim to a spot in the top five and in the process has knocked Michael Bennett out of the group.

  • 2016 Olympic Team and 92 Dream Team made official for NBA 2K17

    NBA 2K17 Paul George Cover

Four years ago in NBA 2K13 the 2012 Men’s National Team and 1992 Dream Team were featured. When Paul George was revealed as the cover athlete for NBA 2K17, and the cover included him wearing a Team USA jersey, it became clear that this year’s team would be part of the upcoming game. Today 2K Sports confirmed that along with the return of the 1992 Dream Team as part of the pre-order bonus.

The official release from 2K Sports failed to mention any new unique ways in which the teams will be utilized. In 2K13 they were only able to be used in “Play Now” games. Additional info could be coming at a later date, considering other National Teams are going to be included with only Australia confirmed so far, and hopefully that’ll be the case as it’ll be disappointing if they’re that limited once again. Whether it be an Olympics mode, tournament setup, a role in the story mode, and ability to use online, they really should be featured in a more expansive manner.

Also left unspecified is whether all 12 players will be there for the Dream Team. Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen were both resistant to being in 2K13.

New with 2K17 is Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski who’ll be found on the sidelines coaching the team and in a revamped tutorial mode focused on teaching basketball fundamentals.

NBA 2K17 is set to release on September 16 and Amazon Prime members can get all versions for 20% off. Besides the Dream Team the base pre-order incentive includes VC, MyTeam packs, and USA Basketball MyPlayer jersey.
