  • Tuning update adjusts fumble rate from strip attempts in Madden NFL 17

While the wait for the first Madden NFL 17 patch continues (it should be out very soon) one area where EA Sports received feedback has already been acted upon with a tuning update today.

The frequency of fumbles has been a topic of discussion ever since Madden went live through EA Access. Though fumbles feel far more organic in how they occur – with the effort seen from defenders to actively strip or punch the ball out – players were losing the ball at a high rate when considering quarter lengths/number of plays.

The infuriating final MUT puzzle piece solo is a good example of how fumbles have been out of control when magnified by All-Madden difficulty and snowy weather conditions. At one point I had seven consecutive first drives end in a lost fumble, and that’s with being conservative and conscious of the need to use the cover-up mechanic whenever possible in those conditions.

  • Get a one week jump start on your NBA 2K17 MyCareer with The Prelude

    NBA 2K17 The Prelude

2K Sports today announced “The Prelude” which will be a free downloadable experience for NBA 2K17 that involves creating your MyPlayer character and playing through the college portion of MyCareer Mode. The Prelude will go out on Friday, September 9 – that’s one full week before the game releases on the 16th. It’ll also have the new tutorial mode while the mobile companion app that will allow for face-scanning to apply to MyPlayers will be available on the 8th.

10 licensed colleges are involved this year: Kansas, Georgetown, Louisville, Arizona, UCONN, Illinois, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Wake Forest. Additionally, after September 16 “All-Time Great” teams for each of the playable colleges will be sold as well as special collegiate MyTeam cards representing legendary players. The Olympics also look to play a role in the 2K17 MyCareer story.

2K claims it’s the “first time in NBA 2K history gamers will get to start their MyCAREER experience prior to the game’s launch” but they’re apparently forgetting about the “Draft Combine” DLC that went out in advance of NBA 2K10’s release. That was sold for $5 however and wasn’t nearly as compelling as what the series has to offer now.

  • NBA 2K17 adds David Aldridge as sideline reporter with Brent Barry and Doris Burke as new announcers

NBA players have apparently already started to receive NBA 2K17 discs and some clearly didn’t get the memo that 2K Sports has yet to unveil the majority of the new features for the game despite there being only three weeks until it releases. Willie Reed of the Miami Heat posted some interesting media to his Instagram before 2K reached him to delete it all.

The most noteworthy of the posts were short video clips revealing TNT’s David Aldridge will be the sideline reporter, that Doris Burke joins Kevin Harlan and Greg Anthony at the announce table, and that Brent Barry of TNT and NBA TV is also found on commentary with Harlan. That could be a sign that potentially there will be multiple broadcast teams in 2K17.

NBA 2K has long emulated TNT’s broadcast presentation, featuring personalities from the network that include Harlan on play-by-play to Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal with the studio shows. It looks as though Burke – who’s acted as the sideline reporter since 2K14 – and Barry would be replacing the odd fit that was CBS college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg who had been in the NBA 2K series since 2008.
