Now in the midst of the busiest time of the year in sports gaming, Bryan Wiedey and Rich Grisham reflect on recent releases and those right around the corner. With limited time what games rise to the top and which fall by the wayside? Between Madden NFL 17, PES 2017, NBA 2K17, NHL 17, FIFA 17, and several racers – Forza Horizon 3, Nascar Heat Evolution, F1 2016 – there’s no choice but for a game to be great in order to compete in the current marketplace.

Though it has yet to build much traction in North America the Pro Evolution Soccer series has been on the rise in terms of quality and it stands to reason that once that becomes more widely recognized by consumers sales could very well follow. PES 2017 released earlier this week and it’s a fantastic game with only a few drawbacks and is currently the highest rated sports game on Metacritic since 2013 having topped last year’s edition.
The gameplay is unmatched now that issues with goalkeeping and a lack of fouls have been addressed. While it offers a great deal of content none of it is truly innovative and unique, so that’s something the series should pursue going forward. For those who are able to get past the licensing shortcomings (the ability to share edited files is present but only on PS4) its a no-brainer for soccer fans. Check out the full review over at Sporting News!

The fifth commentary update for Madden NFL 17 went out today with the broadcast team of Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis reflecting on the events that took place and storylines that emerged from the opening week of the season. Madden will be receiving these real-world commentary updates regularly throughout the year which apply to Play Now and Online games. The duo will also be recording additional audio for modes like Franchise and Ultimate Team.

Well that was fast. After being unveiled by the NFL yesterday the Color Rush uniforms for all 32 teams have been added via patch this morning to Madden NFL 17. Take a look at all of them through screenshots from the game over at Sporting News.
The unis will be found in all modes of play including Play Now, Online, Franchise (they are available even for those started prior to the update) and soon in Ultimate Team.
Games can be played with color vs color and in Franchise all Thursday Night Football games automatically default to Color Rush. To prevent mass confusion where teams with similar colors would play – which is why some of the looks won’t even be worn this year – every team with a dark Color Rush has an “alternate” white Color Rush option which appears to simply be their normal road uniform. Users also now have the ability to manually select both their own team’s uniform and the CPU’s uniform for any game on the schedule.
Now available on multiple platforms is the demo for FIFA 17 which features the opportunity to try out the brand new story mode and play regular matches with a selection of of 12 teams. Queue it up for download on PlayStation 4 here and Xbox One here. A demo for the game can also be tried out on PC, PS3, and 360.
Included is a “select experience” from The Journey while locked into Manchester United (you’ll choose from any EPL club in full game). Kick-Off Matches feature Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais, Seattle Sounders, Bayern MĂĽnchen, Tigres U.A.N.L. (MX), Gamba Osaka. There are three stadiums to choose from with CenturyLink Field, Stamford Bridge, and Suita City.
FIFA 17 will release on Tuesday, September 27. It can be pre-ordered for 20% off by Amazon Prime members making the standard version $48 and the Deluxe Edition $64.
